If you don't know where Whitewater, Ca is, just look for the windmills.  Several years ago you could find the area easily, there was a huge dinosaur that seemed to just jump out at you as you drove down the 10 freeway going to or from Palm Springs.  Today however that dinosaur is hidden behind a couple of restaurants.  It's still there, you just  can't see it as easily, but you can't miss White Water if you look for the windmills.

San Jacinto Mountains near White Water/CA

Whitewater, also known as White Water, is an area about 15 minutes from downtown Palm Springs to the East, and 15 minutes to the cities of Banning, and  Beaumont  to the West. For years, this little part of the desert was basically ignored by developers, Riverside County, and everybody else. On both sides of the hills, Whitewater offers residents the serenity of desert living, only minutes to downtown Palm Springs. The Original name for this development is West Palm Springs Village.

Developers have now found White Water.  Many of the older homes are being replaced with affordable new homes. We all know California home prices are out of reach for many people, but here you can still find  vacant land or a new 3 or 4 bedroom home you can afford. A new home and majestic views of the snow-capped San Jacinto Mountains; it doesn't get any better than that...

Windmills are helping the State with renewable energy, and I am helping families like yours find your new home

Hey...that was pretty neat. When I was small I saw a picture of a windmill in Holland or somewhere over there....and I have loved them ever since.  Thanks for the look into identifying "signs" of Whitewater

Sally,

Thanks for stopping by.  I saw your Holland windmills last year, and the new ones look like this, the old ones have the charm though.

Ginger-

You found me........yes this is the area I love to work, there is a lot of history here, and I love listening to the old timers telling them. Thanks for the compliment.

Jeff & Grace-

Beautiful isn't it?????  There's a waterfall that comes down the front of the mountain, and in the spring you can see it from most of the homes in the area.

Now I know EXACTLY where you are! When I first encountered those windmills several years ago on a drive to San Diego, it was one of those "Wow" moments.

Ann,

Aha :)  yes the picture is pretty descriptive of the area, you really do remember it if you've been by there.  Today the area has changed, and a 23 story Casino is close right off the 10 fwy. Hope you enjoyed San Diego, my other favorite area :) :)

Hi Kathy,

I went to Joshua Tree yesterday and just finished writing about it.  It was funny to come across your blog because we were walking around the Dinosaurs last night!  We stopped at the Burger King that's in front of them.  It was really windy yesterday and the windmills were really working hard!

Patrick,

I just posted where I was yesterday......hopefully you weren't in the same area :)  Next time you're around give me a call, IF I can answer (see new post) :) :)Did you go a little further west? Morongo just opened a Ruby's Diner....

So glad someone on here knows where Whitewater is, and indeed it is windy........

Hi Kathy, I think I remember you commenting on my post on windpower about your windmills.  It is nice to see a photo of them, but they seem a little incongruous with the mountains behind.  I always think of windmills out on the plains.

Joanne,

Oh, we have several of those, miles of them.......and they are on the hills here too.  this particular photo was taken so I could incorporate the two focal points for the area.

You know, until last weekend I was naive enough to think we had the only "windmill farm" in California.  Now, after driving up the 5 freeway past the 46 turnoff (where I usually cut over to the 101), I found another huge "windmill farm".  I guess we have the only one in SOUTHERN California.

Great pictures -

Colleen

Colleen,

Could we give them ours???? There are actually problems with windmills to natural habitats, birds, etc. I have plenty of people that would like to see them go away.......and yes, I have seen another windmill farm, but hadn't remembered where, so thank you.......now I know where it is :) :)

Kathy - when I saw your photo it reminded me of the windmills here in Alberta.  Similar photos - see the link for  windmills and snow capped mountains.

Now that is a beautiful picture......I love the colors......thanks for sharing that.

Kathy- very similar pictures.  Whenever I go through the Crowsnest Pass and see these giants I am amazed.  I was also surprised to find a similar landscape in Spain and to discover that one of the smaller towns was completely reliant on wind power.

Cheryl-Anne,

This once again goes to show how small the world really is.......
