You may have seen on one of the major news shows a review of Whoopie Goldberg's defense of Michael Vick. It took place on " The View " where Whoopie is a host. Seems she felt that because dog fighting is soooo common in the " South " that it shouldn't attract so much attention ! Her remarks includud a " culture " in the south where this is considered acceptable and Vick should be viewed from that perspective. Sorry, Whoopie, you and Vick both owe the decent people in the " South " an apology and more !

If the south really has a tolerance for this kind of thing, then Vick should be used to set an example and given the heaviest sentence possible. I bet that would change the perspective. It seems that the ones that turned on Vick and cooperated knew they were doing something wrong.

In the South this is not acceptable. Is it common I don't know I have never been to a dog fight and I live in the south. I saw Whoopi on "The View" yesterday and she was referring to the culture of the dog fighters. Vick was raised around this. His father was really big into Dog fighting that is what she was referencing.

Dog fighting is more common in the South..(THAN THE NORTH) ......as opposed to the South is a common place for dog fighting.

Vick had his peeps rat on him, now he'll do his time. So be it. I'm surprised it's still being discussed (except by idiots that picked Vick on their Fantasy Football team).

The murder rate in Philly for example........ now THERE is a REPREHENSIBLE SITUATION.

David, I think you may be mixing Whoopie Goldberg with Oprah. I do not think Oprah condoned or made excuses for Vick. Oprah is one of the most generous people and entertainers on earth. We need more people with her compassion and understanding.

I heard the comment as well. Sounds like an excuse for poor judgment. Blaming actions on the "culture" seems like another excuse, not a good one at that!

Hello Bill,

Every now and then Whoopie gets it wrong. It's not the first time. Don't you like it when folks from one part of the country become authorities on another? Seems rather presumptive, now doesn't it? Vick is of course another story, think Gates should be fired and Vick put in as Secretary of Defense. That would send a message.

"Deep South", you need to learn how to read a map for starters, next thing you need to do is come to the East End of Newport News to see that where he was raised, sadly, it is a constant news maker for drug dealing, gangs and murder, not dog fighting!!! He does NOT represent the culture and lifestyle of southerners. We are not people that condone or participate in that sort of activity. We are GOD and America loving people, who love our dogs and are so outraged about his actions and now you are going to dismiss his stupidity and blame the "Deep South" for his actions. So, I guess if you approve of his actions because he is from the "Deep South", then you must think that slavery is still OK.
