I have a feeling that it's gonna be ONE OF THOSE DAYS!

Photograph by Joni Staples (C) 2010

When I look at the photo of the fish, that is what I imagine him to be thinking. To be honest, when I am caught outside of my comfort zone, I pretty much feel the same way! Yet I know that being uncomfortable is what causes us to grow. If everything is hunky dory for too long, pride sneaks in and we begin to think that it is because we are so great at what we do. About that time.... the bait is thrown and before we know it, we've swallowed it hook, line, and sinker! As we are being reeled in we do everything in our power to get ourselves out of the situation. We try to go deeper, but it only helps to set the hook. We race to the left and even jump up and down as things go out of control. We even wiggle and squirm as the hook is removed and eventually... we sit still and wait to see what happens.

When there is absolutely nothing that we can do about the situation, that is when we are forced to trust God. If we could do something about it, then we would not be reminded that we can do nothing without God.

If you have children, then you know about those times when you hold the little angel's face between your hands so that they have to look you right in the eye. You do this so that they cannot look around and get distracted. They HAVE to listen to you.

God the Father sometimes has to do the same thing with us. We fight the whole way in... He allows us to wear ourselves out. Then he removes the hook... holds us in his hand. He removes all the distractions so that we can LISTEN to him and when he is through, he throws us back into the water for another chance.

People often call him the God of second chances. Praise God that He is way more than just a couple of chances. Praise God for "THOSE DAYS" that He allows in our lives.. because it was the only way that He could get our attention so that we could understand what He was trying to teach us. BUT! We can only learn IF we stop feeling sorry for ourselves and quit focusing on the circumstances instead of listening for the message and looking for the blessing.

With every trial is a lesson and with the lesson learned... a blessing. You may be thinking... but you have no idea what I have been through.... and you are right. But once you have made it through, then you are in the perfect position to help another who is facing a similar situation.

Being a blessing IS the blessing.

Today I am repenting for forgetting that I am nothing without you... For allowing myself to fall for the bait... For causing the hook to go in deeper by not immediately giving it over to You and for having to be forced to listen to when I know that I should have been listening in the first place.

Thank you for the lesson and the lesson learned.

Thank you for the privilege of being a blessing to another.

and

Thank you, God, for another One of Those Days!

It's like you've been right here with me the last week or so!  It's been more like ONE OF THOSE WEEKS -- but your lovely post has reminded me that I am not alone and I cannot handle it alone.  In fact, I cannot handle it all.  So I will turn it over to the One that can and I will send up a special prayer of thanks for you, my friend.  Today, you were a blessing to me, and I thank you.
