Voting - Why Would I Waste MY Time?

I admit I do NOT know much about politics and I should.

I do not know much about the candidates and I should!

I do not always think my vote counts and I should.

I got home from work.  Had a nice dinner and did NOT want to vote, meaning I was tired, BUT I got my butt up and we went to vote :-)  Understand, my husband is a chef, so our dinners are always good and our wine is even better.

You can only complain if you do all you can to make a difference in our country.  Voting is only a little bit of that requirement.

I am not writing this for others but for myself!  No offense, but I am really trying to figure out how I (yes ME) can make a difference and how i can help others see how they can make a difference.   A difference in our country and our futures. It is really bothering me that my children will not have the same opportunities that I had.  I am not sure I will even have much opportunity in the future and it scares me.

How do YOU make a difference or what do you recommend we can do to make a difference in where our country is headed?

For one, thing I only hire Americans. I like the idea of VAs (Virtual Assistants) from other countries at $2/hour BUT I just don't agree with it, so instead I pay much more for someone to have a job in my country and in my state.

Thoughts?

Hi Wendy ~ I guess we come from opposite ends of the spectrum since I'm consumed by and obsessed with politics. Good for you to leave that delicious dinner and get to the polls.  And hurrah for you about not hiring off-shore VAs. I've been amazed to hear about all of that at an SEO group I attend.  I share your sentiments completely - and it's why I have somebody bag my groceries and pump my gas (plus the gas is cheaper than the self-serve - tell me it makes any sense for people to go to self serve!!)

Wendy, the gentleman that installs our For Sale signs said to me yesterday, (sic) "that you're always trading one lyre for another. The hope is that you pick the one that won't do the most damage."

Some truth there.

Wow!!!! The world is run by those who show up.  We have the type of government that we vote.  If you don't vote, don't complain.

Don't even get me started on the "4 Hour Work Week"!!!  LOL  Thank you for posting this!  We try to buy American whenever possible too - the only cars parked in our driveway are Chevy's...technology is a little more difficult, but if we have a comparable option, we buy American!  I voted today today...glad you did too.  We have to protect our country, our citizens and our rights...and exercising our rights to vote is a good step in the right direction!

BTW - I am starving...can you send your hubby over to make me a fab dinner?

I read something on Facebook today that struck me pretty hard.  Of course, I can't remember it word for word but it was, basically, about how many women fought very hard for a very long time so I could have the simple right of saying, "No, I'm too tired to go vote today."   We have all mail in elections now and my ballot has been in the box for a few days but this was still a good reminder for me.

Well, that and the whole thing about how you can't bitch if you don't vote and I like to bitch!  :)

Voting in the primaries is important- helps with not getting into the position of voting for the lesser of 2 evils in the regular elections.

Buying locally when possible starting with very local- road side stands, from local farmers, etc.

Voting in your neck of the woods isn't as easy as in my area. I have no wait. When I lived in Orion it seemed like there was usually an hour or so wait in line to vote.

Things have changed in the 15 years I've lived in Lapeer County. When I live in Orion I voted at Webber school and not a bad wait. Then they moved us to the library and very long waits. I don't know what % voted in my district today, but I don't think we have much more than 1000 people in the district.

Voting is such an important duty for all Americans.  We have to do our job and vote, so the leaders we elect can do their jobs.
