REALTORS are people too!
Yes, it's true. REALTORS are human beings with feelings and emotions. We're just like the rest of you out there. If you prick us, we do bleed. If you kick us, we will say "ouch, why did you kick me?" Okay, okay...that was my bad attempt at humour. I'll try sticking to the point.
I'm on what's known as "floor time." Floor time is the agent's time spent in the office answering phones and trying to collect leads and help people out. So people do call up and ask about various properties that we have. And once they get done asking questions, or sometimes in the middle of my answer, they hang up.
Can you imagine that? They hang up. Maybe I'm still way too new in the business, but that strikes me as very rude. I've never just hung up on anybody, no matter how annoying they might be. We are all human beings who deserve some sort of respect. So please try to remember that.
When you're dealing with me, I will do everything I can to help you buy or sell your house/home. You deserve to be treated with respect and I will do that. But I expect to be treated the same. Is that too much to ask for?
Many agents say yes, that is too much to ask for. I've spoken to many experienced agents and they say that people will treat you like dirt because you're a REALTOR. Agents tend to be treated as if they are no better than worms, and that's the way its done. Apparently, agents develop a thick skin and brush off this treatment. I don't know how this got started, but that doesn't strike me as right. We should treat other people as we want to be treated. And we should also treat people how they treat us. If someone treats you with respect, treat them with respect right back.
And remember, REALTORS are people too. Don't just hang up on them or act like they are out to get you. We're just doing our job...and our job is to help you with the home-buying / home-selling process.
Take care!
