Hiking Cowles Mountain is a Must for Outdoor Lovers in San Diego

Looking for a safe and challenging workout?  Try hiking at Cowles Mountain. This hike is one of the most popular and most populated in San Diego.  Almost any time of day you will find adults and children with their dogs going up and down the mountain.  In fact, because of the sheer number of people hiking the trail many feel safe enough to go alone.

At 1,592 feet, Cowles Mountain is the highest point in San Diego.  At the summit you will find amazing 360 degree views of San Diego. The hike is 1.5 miles one way and should take you anywhere from 1 to 11/2 hours to complete. The beginning of the trail can be reached at the corner of Golfcrest Drive and Navajo Road.

Hiking Cowles Mountain is a great work out that shouldn't be missed, but you do have to beware of smash and grab thieves that often target the cars parked up and down Golfcrest.  My recommendation is to lock your purse and/or valuables in your trunk or out of sight.  After going hiking at Cowles for over 10 years I was finally a victim of smash and grab thieves a few months ago.  So just be careful, stay aware and have a good time!
