Michigan may have turned the corner toward a more Business-like atmosphere with the newly elected Legislature and Governor.

Marine City:

Family Business Owner, Virginia Ladensack knows how to move from near collapse into New Concepts.
...The family business founded by her  father.  Ralph Baker nearly 30 years ago as a manufacturing and service on
machines dating back to the early 1900's. As the years passed, son Robert Baker & daughter Virginia Ladensack
became partners.  Various changes made over the years until the Fisher-Baker Corp. [with son Robert & Virginia L.]
in 1984 occupied the space at 420 S. Water.  The father Ralph Baker moved to Florida [start up a plant] & in
2000 , son Robert retired.  Virginia stayed at the original location and as the economy slowed almost to a stop for
that area, she took a long look & realized that she had to Grow or Go. Virginia tapped into the company's over
30 years of experience in shipping product.
Through hard work, on line research & 'netting', getting the message out any way she could-The birth of:
"FB Package and Shipping".  During the ensuing years, she has become the local spot for a FedEx Center,
the U.S.Postal Office; and eventually an authorized center for UPS.
Congratulations to a forward-thinking-and-acting Business Woman.

We'll see how our "one tough nerd" does as Governor. If we can cut the taxes and cut the regulation, we just might keep pulling out of this mess and get some prosperity flowing again.

Kathy...it is a start isn't it;  beginning to believe that Michigan will take it's place, once again with those states that support jobs within the Private sector & those necessary ones within the public sector.
Thanks for your comment.  almost Friday again--can you figure that/  Have a great rest of the week.

Laura...she certainly is that--the article included other steps she took to reinvent the business. She used personal contacts "one person at a time" as well as getting placed upon the websites of the shipping companies.
She is a walking lesson in "How to grow your business".
thanks for your comment.  Have a great rest of the week.

Emily...Virginia's story in the paper was an uplifting one to read.  She has a smile that can light up at gloomy space. She personally meets & greets [along with her 'right hand-wo-man' at her side. This is another aspect to her story: this woman was laid off due to economic situation , & then with the reinvention or extension of the business, Virginia hired her right back to work.  [The Northeast part of Michigan is basically smaller towns that have been very hard hit, well before 2008 elections]
This Virginia's newspaper story brings to mind the NYT editorial  to another Virginia:
---"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"
Thanks for your comment & have a great rest of the week.

Jason...With the 'transition team' he has brought to the front--it seems that the 'breath ability' quotient here is
open and ready for business--pun intended.
The past years have taken the air out of our sails -sales; now it is possible to believe that Michigan's atmosphere is clearing up.  True jobs created by actual Business entities here or moving here are desired.
Have you noticed the verbal 'qualifiers' many of us are using as we watch & wait.  what do you suppose will happen when [& I say WHEN] the business-job sector picks up noticeably--enticing to visualize that.
It goes without saying that jobs now & home ownership-with ALL that implies- sooner rather than later is the planned reality for Michigan.  thanks for your comment.  Have a great rest of the week.
