OLD DOGS and Children ... and Maybe Some Older People Too...

Sad to note as the little guy had to be put down today. We will miss him.
I remember when we got him. I still picture the kids wide eyed with excitement as he arrived.
Everybody claimed him. He made the rounds. Buddies oohed with jealousy and clamored to their parents for their own little dog.
Sleep overs in various bedrooms were the rage (and sometimes arguments). He knew every friend and every bedroom.
The kids grew older, found other hormonal and economic interests, and thankfully moved on.
But he didn't.
He searched for a while, looking for the remnants of his youth, but found the same old food bearers.
He still alerts us about potential danger with every ring of the door bell, and still hates the neighbor's cat.
Squirrels are sworn enemies, but are harder to see and chase. His steps are slower and measured, as are his days.
The Vet loves to see him. ($) and he still hates that place too.
We continue daily walks, pet him, and tell him "good boy" with a pat on the head. He is, and always will be, our dog.
So a gentle reminder to all those deciding to get a pet. Pick one that you want. Times change but the loyalty of your pet doesn't. They grow old with us.
