The Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010. TIP is a national program that relies on volunteers to provide assistance in emergency situations. It is also a non-profit organzation, so if you're looking for a way to lessen your tax liability so that you don't have to complain as much about how the government spends its money, formerly your money, donate to TIP. Volunteers are specially trained in providing emotional and practical support to victims and their families in the first few hours following a tragedy a time when they are often in emotional shock and unprepared for what happened. These volunteers support police officers, firefighters, and paramedics who are often too busy with their own duties to provide support to the victims and survivors. Once TIP volunteers are called, they has someone on the scene within 20 minutes to provide support until family members, friends, and neighbors can take over. TIP volunteers are available 24/7/365 days a year to assist police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and hospital personnel with: TIP volunteers can also assist in:Provide emotional support to victims or survivors TIP of San Diego County has five teams, each with about 25 volunteers. Great cause and I agree on donating to them than to the government =) Kudos for the 25 long years!
What a great cause Jim. We will search and see if we have something like this in our area. We know there is a shortage of the `professional` and volunteers are needed and are just as important.
Jim I was on another post commending the writer about supporting a great Cause. Just as I said to her, I do not know of any other profession outside of Realtors who take such a proactive approach supporting their causes. I am just amazed, as you know my causes are Animals since they can not speak up for themselves.
That must be a very challenging job. I imagine you'd have to be a very special person to be there for someone in that hour of need following a tragedy. So glad to see you highligh the organization on your post.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone.
I’m trying to catch up on old posts to see if anyone had a question or if there are some comments that need a response. If so, I’ll respond in a comment below this one.
Also remember that I return comment for comment, so I'll be by your blogs to read and comment soon. I'm exactly 30 days behind right now, but I usually catch up during Thanksgiving and Christmas, so you'll definitely hear from me soon.
And if you need a cat book for Christmas for that special cat person in your life — even yourself if you're your own special cat person in your life! — I can highly recommend “The Cat Lover’s Book of Days,” by our own ActiveRain Member Peg Silloway. It's a book that you can use year after year, and never get tired of, because there are no years in it, only days. It's great!
