A New Approach to Turning the Clocks Back...

By
Real Estate Agent with New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County

As if usual for this time of year, I have seen some posts last week, and more and more of them as we get closer to tomorrow, Saturday... the big "turn the clocks back" day.

I have an idea.  Sure... we "Spring Forward, and Fall Back"... as far as messing both with the clock and the time change, and also messing with our internal sleep clocks.

Some people say, I am told, that it hits older folks more than younger ones.  Some of us take quite a while to adjust.  I have also read some stories by dairy farmers... that their milk-producing cows can have a difficult time adjusting.

The sleep disorder doctors call it the "circadian rhythm."  It affects plants and animals, as well as us humans.

Well... here is a new idea.  What if... instead of doing the "same old, same old" routine of turning our clocks back only ONE hour... to get that one extra hour of sleep... what IF... we turned our clocks back TWENTY-FIVE hours.

Could we then get an entire day, plus that extra hour... of extra sleep ?  I am tired, and I could surely use the sleep.

I have been reaching into the far corners of my brain... trying to come up with some answers.  Anyone else have any similar suggestions ?  Whaddya say.  Could it work ?

Just Wondering...

Ms Karen- I like your way of thinking. I've always had a hard time adjusting to the time change.  It's not that I'm late/early to things because of it, but my body rhythm takes time to adjust  I either want to eat an hour earlier (no need to worry about wanting to eat an hour later) or go to bed an hour earlier.  In any event I could use the extra hour.

I will vote for a 25 hour turn back. What an amazing idea. I could actually get some real sleep. Does it come without guilt?

Jane:  I believe it about the heart attacks.  It can put some of the older and more fragile folks under stress.  So, tomorrow night should be a good thing, and 25 hours even better.  Just think if we could turn it into a "do over."

Jack in #15:  I caution you, my friend.  Yer startin' to get a little complicated here.  Remember... yer dealin' with Realtors, now.  We need to keep it simple... <smile>

Now the 96 hours for the election.  What good would a do-over be ?  We would need a whole lot more time, and the Democrats... especially "the Chief" would have to grow some "brass ones" and return some of the "favors" Ms Palin was passing out.  Although, actually, in Delaware, Nevada, and prolly Colorado too... she sure did screw things up for the Republicans.

I sure hope she gets the nomination for President in 2012.  What a Christmas Present !

Ruthmarie:  Yes... the "anti-science" crowd.  No such thing as global warming.  The ocean levels are not rising, etc.  I guess the fact that some of the islands in Chesapeake Bay have disappeared is all a hoax.

There are some who trumpet so strongly their "anti-elitist" drivel... trying to paint anyone who seems to know what they are talking about... as an elitist.  It is so ironic that so many other countries value and honor their "learned" citizens, yet so many here devalue them.  Hope you are well... take care...

Kathy in #17:  It is difficult for many to adjust to the various time-changes.  It takes time, sometimes a few weeks to a month.  Some folks... just a few... get to in-tune with one time regimen that adjusting to a new one is very, very difficult.

Well... with my suggestion, you get an extra hour, plus an extra day.  Use it well, my dear.  <smile>

Ellie in #18:  Just for you, I have ordered the time change this year to come WITHOUT guilt, but WITH a quilt.  That way... when you catch that extra 25 hours of sleep... you can be nice and cozy warm.

I read that Cleveland actually has a chance of snow this weekend.  Hope things in Ellicott City don't get covered with white stuff this weekend.  I remember last winter... you had some really cool and cute posts showing all the snow, with your boy... and looked like you were having some fun with it.

So... yes, no guilt.  But, you'll have to find a place to hide so you can sleep... without being pestered.  By the way... you are so fortunate to live in such a nicely-blue-colored state.  More than a little envy, here.

Rebecca in #19:  Remember... I am in Texas.  The thinking down here very often ends up being pretty warped.  I try to shield myself from it, but usually to no avail.  Enjoy your extra hour.  Stay warm.  You live in such a pretty area.  So serene.

Elizabeth in #20:  Ahhh... the election.  I liked what Bill White had to say in the Governors campaign against Perry.  He had great things to say, he just didn't get his message across very well.  He needed to be more forceful... and display a more "in control" persona.  Unfortunately, he came across as somebody's very nice uncle.

Oh yes.  We will definitely make it a holiday.  But, will that mean that Realtors get the day off as well, or will even more folks want you to take them out and show them homes.  We need more "days off" that actually turn into actual days off.

Paul:  I can easily understand that when your "receptors" notice a change coming in the seasons that they can become disoriented.  That sounds pretty normal to me.  There are many things our bodies do, and many ways they respond to things... that we have no idea of.  It's such a good thing that some of our bodily systems are on "automatic pilot" and don't have to wait until our brains remember to tell them (those systems) what to do.

Have a great weekend.  Enjoy the extra hour.

Karen, you crack me up.  What a great suggestion.   What could I do with 25 hours?

  • Sleep
  • blog
  • catch up all that stuff that's supposed to done already.
Let's send it to Congress for a vote.  Should we?

Kate:  Considering what just happened to Congress a few days ago, I don't think ANYTHING is going to happen there... for a very long time.  I think all we can expect now is Gridlock.

But... with the news that old friend Jerry Brown is now Governor of the Great State of California... there is no telling what he can or cannot do... if he wants to.  Perhaps we can get HIM to put this on the ballot.  It would be much better than that really dumb Prop 8 that has caused so much trouble out there.  Whaddya think ?

Cows could care less about the time change Karen Anne. They want to be milked at the same time every day no matter what the clock might say. And my dog insists on getting up at the same time too, real time.

I say we should just not change the clocks. Does it really save anything? Does it really help us? How on earth does it save daylight, LOL, I'm just sayin... it kills daylight IMHO.
