The troubles in the housing market are worsening, they say. Global warming is accelerating, butter flavored microwave popcorn may kill me, and my favorite shade of lipstick has just been discontinued. Again.

But I won’t listen to a word of it. I have too many wonderful clients who rely on me to help them realize their dreams. And I will. This gorgeous planet is still the most dazzling point in someone’s night sky. And my lips smile warmly at the prospect of discovering an even prettier shade.

So take your bad news elsewhere because I don’t believe in you.

I believe in the power of my own determined and enthusiastic spirit. Doubt and fear have never served me – nor have I served them in return. I don’t buy into the collective belief that all is lost because someone announces it is so. My limitations will not be decided by forces external to me.

I will decide.

I decide that the market is filled with buyers and sellers who need each other – and I will be the broker to bring them together. They will choose me because I offer the positive outlook that is in such short supply in our industry.

I decide that with all this love for our enchanting Earth, we will succeed in saving it before it’s too late. I know this is true because so many have already decided to make it happen.

I decide that a trip to the mall is exactly what I need today. I work hard and often forget that I need something too.

And it’s just a good thing I don’t like microwave popcorn, because I’ve already decided what’s for dinner. And it isn’t on the menu.

If you believe that you can or believe that you can't, YOU ARE CORRECT!

Stay Positive, Things Are Not As Bad As They Say.

This is a time to weed out those that are not committed to excellence, and customer service. The strong, dedicated and honest will survive and prosper.

Warm Regards,

Mott... I think it was Richard Bach who said something to the effect that 'if you argue for your limitations, then sure enough - they're YOURS!' It is all about what we believe and how we decide to use it. Glad you agree :)

Jen...way to go with this.

People speak about "The Market" in hushed tones, like it's some evil dark lord popping out from behind every corner.

I was just contacting Marty Rodriguez today...she set sales records in the last down market and is one of the most successful people in the world.  Her attitude is similar to what you shared:

"Buyers are buying and sellers are selling.  Nothing else matters."

There may not be enough business out there for every real estate professional...but there's enough for me!

That's right Joey, and I intend to be the one they use. We have to acknowledge reality with our sellers, but keeping it positive makes a big difference. We need to sharpen our competitive edge - and I believe that happens in our attitude. Thanks for checking in mister :)

Hi Jennifer,
You go girl!  I am with you, you are what you believe you are and you accomplish what you believe you can accomplish.

I am sick, sick of the media's negativity.

Cynthia... I am sick, sick, sick of the negativity in the media too! I heard a new statistic in my area yesterday that said there are now 50 listings to every qualified buyer. Everyone moaned, and I got excited! Wow! That means I have a stack of buyers who will definitely find their perfect home! What is WRONG WITH EVERYONE??? Don't they get it??

Thanks for your inspiring comment!

Jennifer, I was browsing your blog today and while I almost went to the Meme you wrote (A semi-trekkie myself, very amateur though) I was drawn to this one. I love the mindset. It is the mindset we all need to have. While I don't necessarily agree that if it's to be it's up to me (I can't do it on my own, I need help) I do believe in the power to shape my own future.

Now that is spoken like a true Oregonian! I'm with you I have stopped listening to the media because I am just tired of them telling my how bad things are when I am helping more people now than I was even two years ago when it was supposed to be good!

People walk away for the water cooler, it is damaging your business!

Jennifer - I love the attitude and perspective, if only more shared it...including those Media lugs.   You wrote one sentence that is breathtakingly brilliant my dear, "Doubt and fear have never served me - nor have I served them in return."  Hmmm, that's a nice and healthy way to live;-)

Jason... Believe me, it's a daily challenge to keep the doubt and fear at bay. But I do work at it. Because if I fold, I'm not really living at all, am I? I'm glad to know we see it the same way.

Jennifer,

OMG....you have spoken what I have been trying to preach to my agents for the past six months (elimate the lipstick :-)). You have refreshed my endeavor!

The media rules this country and unfortunatley too many sheep follow that sheperd. If they say it, people believe it! Good for you in not only seeing through the smoke and mirrors, but for speaking out in this regard.

Thank you!

"Global warming is accelerating."

I forgive you this liberal flight of whimsy because the rest of the message rings true.  The world is actually entering a cooling cycle, but this was so well expressed, that I won't poke holes in your ozone layer.  Another beautiful post that I am better for reading.  How is Portland for commercial ventures presently?  I have scouted opportunities there in the past, and your market seems to be withstanding the national slump better than most.  Regards.

Mr. or Ms. Mystery Person... The earth is in a cooling cycle? Would you care to offer any evidence? Such as your name for starters??

The business sector of Portland is doing quite well considering the mess our economy is in right now. I'm looking forward to the more enlightened Obama presidency to bring us out of this dismal economic mess we're in.

Don't be a stranger! LOL!!
