Our whole Active Rain schedule got blitzed yesterday thanks to one post from Thursday: The Buyer Paid HOW Much??

We had a double promotion for this post, first a Feature (and for whatever reason, it stuck at the top of the Featured Blog for about 1/2 a day....I think the staff was down in New Orleans or on a plane and ours must have been the last pick before getting occupied), so we were getting lots of comments and what for us is a ton of reblogs (8 so far).

Then the post was the Title Post for the Active Rain Daily Drop e-newsletter...and THEN it REALLY got busy!! We're flirting with 200 comments so far, and check the screen shot...our first post over 2000 views. Now we attracted a couple of rude consumer commenters, one we left up (#124), another was so profane we did a delete (and we don't do that lightly), but nice to see the consumers are out there and reading!

We make a point of responding to EVERY commenter, and going over to thank every person that reblogs, and obviously this can be time consuming if you hit the commenting jackpot. This post resonated with the readers, some of our featured posts don't get us much in the way of extra comments...but this one was a whole new story! So much for any planned additional posts for yesterday!

So if you ever doubted just how quickly Active Rain can launch a post into orbit, don't doubt it any longer!

Jane, It included the f-bomb and various other deragatory names directed at all REALTORs. Some one has some serious hate in their life unfortunately. Don't know what happened to them, but they've got some serious issues.

Liz & Bill first congrats on one of your many featured post, wow 200+ comments now you are going into "Active Rain Hall of Fame" soon they do track the most comments:)) As far as the rude comments, I feel sad for that type of person. There are many posts that I run across and either I do not care for the message or the delivery style, I choose not to comment. What is the old saying "if you can not say anything nice, then don't say it":)) Again Congrats of a super feature

Your post once again provides ammunition for those people (me included) who believe that how the featured posts and daily drop posts are chosen is grossly unfair. Spread the wealth around instead of featuring so many of the same people over and over and over again.

Jim, I'll trust the staff, but perhaps our selection criteria have overlap. We're over 150 called shots so far and have 200 as our next goal.

I really not sure why Jim would make that comment here?? It is not your choosing to be featured, it is others choice and you write GREAT blogs. So comments like that should not be left where they have no bearing, gives negative vibe where there is no need for one... Just my thinking though! (I tell my children not to try to steal someone elses thunder when they get a compliment...)

Melissa, wasn't totally sure how to interpret. I know many are not happy with the way the featured/daily drop process works. I like the fact that with the called shot we have some level of input, but ultimately it's up to the staff to make that call. I don't think there's any automatic Featured based on number of called shots, still at staff discretion. I'm content with the process, and I think lately there have been a lot of new faces on the Featured posts, although you'll still get many from the regulars....but after a few years they know how to write what is liked, and have a huge following. It's our job to build the same huge following over time...and it will take MUCH time. Even with the 2000 plus views, we didn't pick up any new subscribers.

Tish, Thanks! I can't say I expected that kind of response, and it was a wee bit more lively than most of our comment streams...and complete with our first consumer f-bomb (which we deleted with the rest of his bile that added nothing to the conversation).

There's no question a feature can drive traffic, but how does this translate to tangible business? "Obviously this can be time consuming" is right. At the end of the day though, it's the time spent with our buyers and sellers that really matters.

John, We look at the time spent here as two fold, obviously looking for consumers to find us and talk to us, but also to build relationships with the members here...both for potential referral business, to learn, and we've made some friends here that we'd love to drop in on some day. Perhaps the latter doesn't lead as directly to business, but it fulfils another purpose.

Barbara, We definitely didn't expect it to take off the way it did. We chilled a little today, went and saw the movie Hereafter after church! :)
