Prepare your Outdoor plants for Indoors

Was reading an article today and I just used to bring portable plants in, when the first frost was upon us. (usually much too late) My ficus was pretty angry with me and suffered for several months until it got used to things again. Anyhow, what I was reading today is, that the correct way to prepare indoor plants, that have been outdoors, for moving back in, is to separate them from the rest of the potted plants outside, give them a good dosing of insecticide or clean them of any bugs that might be living within them....and watch them for a week or two. Give them one more good going over before the final move into the house. And the plants should return to the house just at the last evenings where the windows can be left open while sleeping.

I guess that it seems logical, but this time of year passes so quickly, and I don't want to see it go.  I almost always forget about the plants,...
