Motivational Power Quote

Our Toughest Competition

"Our business in life is not to get ahead of others,

but to get ahead of ourselves -

to break our records,

to outstrip our yesterdays by our today."

Steward B. Johnson, author

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Our toughest competition

We come face to face with the competition everyday of our lives. We face the competition every time that we look into the mirror; the competition is the competition of our mind.

To achieve greatness in our lives we have to become better at the things we do. To achieve success we have to be better today then we were yesterday.

The foundation of long term success is found in constant incremental improvement. That is where we compete with ourselves on a daily basis and continue to get better.

The standards of improvement are how much do we improve by measuring our progress against ourselves. In the long run we have to face ourselves everyday and we are the only one that can make an honest assessment of our self, our progress and improvement.

Our toughest competition is our self; and to get better then our competition we need to have personal and constant incremental improvement on a daily basis.

Isn't that the truth... Yes we are our own competition.  Wake up, decide on what we want to generate or not...

It's that simple.

Have  a great year.

This is a great reminder.  Thanks for sharing.   Isn't it great to know your competition so well---to know "their" strengths/weaknesses and decide how to "beat" them at "their" own game?

Lou, so true.  We humans often defeat ourselves before we even start.  Our minds control so much.

I rarely set my standards by others alone. I do think there is danger in setting standards on someone else because the best you usually do is be slightly better than them. So if you are going to set your standard, pick the best person in your field.
