The time change that gave us an extra hour of sleep this morning is a good time to make battery replacements. We are reminded about the alarms, and this is a great time to replace the batteries that keep them operating.
One battery replacement that is less publicized is the battery in your thermostat. If you live in a northern state, cabin fever is likely to strike sometime between now and next May. Many of us will leave our homes for a few days, weeks, or months, to get away from the cold and ice. Most of us will return to a home that needs some digging out, but is substantially intact.
Many thermostats rely on battery power to operate. If the battery fails, your furnace may not operate. If it fails while you are enjoying sun, sand and surf during your winter escape, you may return to a glacier. Frozen burst pipes aren't much fun. Today is a great day to replace the battery in your thermostat.
