So you are a golfer moving to DC and you need a house.  What are you going to do to continue to enjoy the sport that you love.  Even though DC is not an area known for its golf courses like Pebble Beach or Sawgrass, we do have a few courses here and there a lots of options for you.  When you pick your Realtor, you might want to talk to him or her about your passion for golf and make sure that accessibility to golf courses is part of the research that your agent does for you.

Are you going to play one of the many local public courses or join a golf or country club? If you work in Montgomery County, Maryland, you might want to look at homes that are near one of the nine golf courses that Montgomery County owns and operates from Potomac to Damascus to Silver Spring.  For instance, the nine hole course at Sligo Creek is the oldest 9 hole course in the county and sits within the Montgomery County Parks system. Although the course is hilly, many golfers still walk the course because of its lovely park-like setting.   Little Bennett Golf Course is further away from DC and offers some beautiful views of Sugarloaf Mountain.  This is another hilly course with continuous cart paths.  The practice facility offers a full grass driving range and three practice greens, and the club house has a fully stocked pro shop and snack bar.  If you need to plan a tournament or a large outing, this is the course for you! Even if you are a first time home buyer, you can be near a golf course with all its amenities and beautiful green spaces.  Montgomery County offers golf courses throughout the county which permits you to pick the part of the county closest to your work and other preferred amenities.

If you want to live in Potomac Maryland, and don't want to join a private club, but you want to be near a beautiful golf course, the the Falls Road Golf Course might be your answer.  This course was completed in 1961 on 150 acres of farmland east of Potomac Village. The wide fairways and large greens are a pleasure to play as you pick from one of 4 sets of tees.  The mix of holes include a parkland type course on the front nine and a tree lined back nine.  Falls Road enjoyed a renovation of all 18 holes in 2003 and a newly constructed clubhouse with flat screen TVs and an enjoyable snack bar.  There are lots of great homes in Potomac ranging from townhouses beginning at $219,000 and ranging to single family homes like the new construction on Chapel Road for $12,500,000. Whether you are looking for a short sale bargain or a luxury home, the Lise Howe team can help you.

If you are planning to make your move to Montgomery County a permanent move, you might want to consider looking for a home near a country club.  A few clubs in Montgomery County, like Avenel, Kenwood and Manor Country Club, were developed as the centerpiece of a residential community, while others like Congressional Country Club and the Chevy Chase Club are in residential communities, but not part of them.  If you want to live in Bethesda or Chevy Chase and be near a golf course, then you might consider the Chevy Chase village area or Chevy Chase Section IV or the community of Kenwood, where you can find some beautiful homes backing to the Chevy Chase Club, Kenwood, or Columbia Country Club, that are still an easy walk to Bethesda.

Some of the Montgomery County country clubs have a historic list of past members, politicians and statesmen, like Gerald Ford who was a member of Congressional Country Club, while other clubs are more low key.  Cost might be a factor  too since some membership fees and monthly fees can be more than a mortgage on a small home! A final consideration may be timing because the waiting list for some clubs will be a matter of years, while others have no waiting list at all.
