Do Not Call Registry Update

Did you get an email claiming that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls because of a new cell phone number database? I just did and found out that those claims are not true. In fact, federal law prohibits telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phones. Still you may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry, but there is generally no reason to do so. For more information, see the FTC's press release "The Truth about Cell Phones and the Do Not Call Registry" at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2007/02/dnccellphones.shtm The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years. This may be a good time to update your clients on this!

Even though I'm on the DNCL, my cell has been receiving many more automated messages than I'd like. Most roll to voice-mail, where they are deleted.

Thanks for the Web address for the FTC press release.

Best regards,

Sam White

I have come to believe that e-mailed stuff like that is all junk.  I get 2 or 3 paypal account update e-mails a week, and same for 4 different banks that I do not do business with anyway.
