a room that can stick around

If there is one thing that is hard to resist, it's making a new baby's room cute and well...babyish. Everyone wants to use the baby pinks and baby blues, maybe even some polka dots. But, the fact is, before you know it, they've outgrown their room. And so begins the sick cycle of painting and re-painting a room to fit your child's current obsessions and stage of life. The good news is, it doesn't have to be that way! There is a way to make a room for your baby that will still be good for your teenager (with a few minor changes, of course). The room below is a great example of a way to make a space that is age-appropriate for a young child, but with some extremely easy modifications, would look stylish for a much older girl, as well. Another important thing about this room is that it could be used for a guest room when company comes. You don't want your guests to feel like they are sleeping in a daycare do you? This room is good inspiration for that transitional space you're looking for:

I absolutely love the color of this space. It is cozy, and yet classy as well. The contrast of the furniture and light colors looks amazing, and makes for a bright space. The white shag rug, always a classic, makes the floor a fun and comfortable place to play for a child. A few years down the line it would be simple to throw the stuffed animals off, maybe replace the art above the desk, and it's perfect! The lighting also adds a special touch to the room, and won't date easily! I say great job to this designer!
