Veteran's Day November 11, 2010 -A Day to Give Thanks to Those That Serve
Veteran's Day is a day set aside for serving those who served us by fighting for our country.
Veteran's Day is a day to honor the courageous men and women who have fought for freedom and those who continue to do so; a day to honor those around the world who were prepared to lay down their life for the benefit of others. It's a day to remember and give honor to veterans, their families and all active and fallen soldiers whose efforts have made this world a safer place for all the rest of us to enjoy.
The first Veteran's Day was celebrated on November 11, 1919.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Armistice was signed ending World War I and Veteran's Day, originally called Armistice Day was established to honor that event. Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 and became a day to honor American Veterans of all wars.
Join me in saying thank you to all the Veterans who serve and have served and who have sacrificed for the common good and continue to do so in order make our country a safe place to live.
The Village of Suffern will be honoring its veterans in a Veteran's Day Parade on November 11, 2010, jointly conducted by The Ramapo Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2973 and the Fromm-Maxwell-DeBaum American Legion Post No. 859. The parade will start forming at 10:30 a.m., at the Suffern Village Hall, 61 Washington Avenue, and then parade to the Soldier’s Monument, to begin the 11:00 ceremony.
