One of the most favorite parts of our profession as Home Stagers is shopping for the beautiful merchandise which enhances the decor of our clients' homes.  There are many retailers and catalogues to choose from and RESTORATION HARDWARE is one of my personal favorites!  The quality of their merchandise is outstanding and the up-to-date colors can really step up an otherwise lackluster setting. Though they have locations in over 100 cities across the U.S. and Canada, I often find what I need within the catalogue since I am not particularly close to a brick-and-mortar store myself.

Because we are always looking for vendors' assistance in pricing, I contacted RH's Trade Vice-President and General Manager, Claire Eeles.  On everyone's behalf, I inquired about the membership to their trade division and asked if the Home Stagers could also have the opportunity to join. Of Course! Warmly, Ms. Eeles welcomes each one of us to join the trade membership program and is looking forward to having the professional Home Stagers as part of their trade customer base!

I hope each one of you takes this opportunity to look through the RESTORATION HARDWARE on-line catalogue and considers joining the Trade Membership courtesy which has been extended to our Home Staging profession.  The managers of your local retail stores are ready to help you and personally-speaking, I have had great experiences every time!  ENJOY!

Every stager should check with all the companies that offer a trade discount - you never know and the worst they can say is "no".   Just a few that do offer a trade discount:

  • Ballard Design
  • Williams Sonoma - includes Pottery Barn, West Elm, etc.
  • Pier 1

Lisa-Great! The items here are reasonable and the sale items are super great! I love the quality of the fabrics with their products too.  Even though a lot of the rental furniture we are able to use in this industry (at least in my neck of the woods) is not the greatest, by adding better-looking pillows, bedspreads etc....it really makes a nicer statement.  I know that I have appreciated the other AR members who have kept us up-to-date with resources so thanks to you and everyone else who continues to help in this area!  Regards-Kathleen G

Hi Kathleen,

Thank you for this very useful piece of information.  We have a Restoration Hardware store right here in town and in the past have never seemed to get a positive response to have our industry partner with them in a program.  After reading this, I will definately make it a point to visit them in the next few days (along with my Tax ID info.)

Thanks again for this resource.

Best Regards,

Heather Klein

Kathleen,

Thank you so much for pursuing this. I love RH too and more importantly their style really resonates with our clients.

Betty-I am going to answer you first because I was laughing so hard!!  Ha,ha....glad to hear that you do not need any hardware 'restored'!!  You are funny!  Well....it is easy to understand if you are not familiar with Restoration Hardware as a retail store.  If you have not been to one, when you travel, pop inside and enjoy the varied items.  I am partial to their quality throw pillows because it is such an inexpensive touch which looks more elegant than most alternate choices!

Kathy N.- I am starting to see a trend with all of the Kathys and Kathleens! : ) Maybe we should spell creative with a 'K'.  Glad you appreciated the effort and I am sure RH will be happy to see the response from stagers!

Heather- You are welcome! This is a moderately new program for RH I think.  I mentioned what I did for a profession to a store manager a few months ago and she immediately showed me the brochure for the Trade.  The manager in Sarasota was so helpful and made calls for me right on the spot about a particular item I needed.  Contacting them to 'officially' obtain an invite felt good and I hope to continue to help increase the value of Home Stagers as a profession.

Regards to All-Kathleen G.

Karen- Glad you stopped by! RH was very responsive and the VP-GM even sent me her cell number if I had further questions.  That said a lot on behalf of RH management. Their immediate interest and welcome to Home Stagers was really nice to see!

Susan-Their style is so nice-I agree!  Even clients with more simple taste will appreciate the small and classy touches found at RH.  The quality has been great over the years and even if we pay a tad more than a less-expensive discount store overall, the bang we get out of a better-looking item (pillows, bedspreads, lamps etc.) seems to work on the upside! Clients will very often ask where you found items. Oh BTW...the catalogue carries items not found in the store!  I like that they are reasonably priced as well! Great style too!

Regards to both of you-

Kathleen G.

Kathleen, I went to the link you provided and their furnishings and home decor items are gorgeous.  I have discovered that there is one in Vancouver, but that is a ten hour drive away (one way) so I think I will be looking into the mail catalogue.  Thanks for posting this great site.  (BTW - how do you restore badly discolored and dinged up ivory and glass doorknobs?)  Betty

Hi Betty....Yes, that is too long of a drive!  The items are even better looking in person so I think you would be really pleased with their quality and service via the catalogue department.  Example--I have ordered oversized special planters to jazz up entryways that were reasonable in price and looked 5 times more expensive!

Re-the old glass and ivory door knobs from days long ago, I use this particular catalogue to find replacements.  When the glass knob is scratched and sorta dull, there is no easy way to make it look nice and neat unless you replace the knob.  The same goes for those old ivory-glass ones too.  Take a look at this 'hardware' site...It is one I usually go to when I need specific replacements for antique items. Their range is quite broad and you can find everything from single carved table legs (all sizes) to knobs etc....

This is great Kathleen! The squeaky wheel worked here. I know they require "proof" of something like IRIS, ASID etc. do you know what other than our business license/card they want stating that we're professional home stagers?

Hi Jackie-Welcome to Active Rain!  You will find many wonderful tips to assist you in your business here! Lots of talented stagers and more information than you ever imagined!

Hi Karen- There is a choice of business documents which they do require/accept as proof of working in a design-based business.  You only have to include ONE of the items with your application.  Resale certificate, business license, your EIN or Federal ID number form as proof are several of the choices.  There was nothing more required than that!
