Providence RI Ranks High on Best U.S. Cities by Travel & Leisure Magazine

Providence RI has just been ranked in the top 3 Best U.S. Cities by Travel & Leisure state houseMagazine in their November 2010 issue.  Little old Rhody is stepping on some big toes out there around the country now! With over 35 cities from San Francisco to New York in competition on many categories, I can say with great assurance to anyone coming here- they chose their city well.

bronze medalProvidence RI came in at #2 for the best Theatre and Performing Arts venue after New York City- that is just amazing and wonderful... See what most people out of area do not know is that we have Trinity Repertory Company here which is renown for their stage productions.  Remembering that Brown University has an acclaimed playrighting school many of the graduate playrights remain locally and do their writing for Trinity Rep.  In addition, Providence has the Providence Performing Arts Theatre which attracts productions from around the country and is well thought of.  It still is great kudos to this city to rank this highly among the competition.

Providence RI ranked #3 in two other categories.  One is for the best neighborhood food joints and cafes in the United States and the other was for the best pizza places.  No surprise on either of these...we have one of the best nationally known culinary school in Johnson & Wales University in Providence RI.  Johnson & Wales attracts students from 89 countries around the world so the ethnicity of all these students is bound to flow out to the restaurants they work in and create in the capitol city.  Also, we have an incredibly large Italian population in Providence and the finest Italian restaurants to eat in too.  Of course we have great pizza- visit Caserta's!  Ahh, also Providence was ranked as the #3
Providence Waterfire at duskbest city to visit in the Fall season...of course, we have Waterfire!

Hear me, hear me...we beat out New Orleans too!  So consider Providence RI in your next cross country and East coast travels...Providence RI ranks high on best U.S. cities by Travel & Leisure Magazine in November.

Good morning Ginny. Cool! Believe it or not, RI is the only state in the continental US I have not been to. I guess I will have to change that...

Hi Ginny!

Guess the Ocean State is known for more than the ocean! Food is important here:) And so are the arts. Plus most people in little Rhody are "characters"!  ( I say this in a good way:)

I think you also have so much history to show off. I would love to tour some of the older buildings and museums you have in your part of the United States.

Ginny, What a fabulous post. From one Rhode Islander toanother, we certainly are proud of our state. I love it so much that inspite of our blizzard winters I still remain when so many of my family have moved on to warmer states. Ilove our food, oir theater and definitely waterfire. This recognitionn by the Travel and Leisure Magazine has added another feather to our RI Yankee Doodle heriitage and will bring more and more visitors to our state and hopefullyy they will love all we have to offer that they will want to reside here and give us both more and more real estate business.

I am so excited about this as a former resident for 15 years.  It is a wonderful city with so much to offer.  I took my grandson to the RogerWilliams Park zoo last year and he loved the anteater.  That is a different perspective than the article focused on but here is so much to see and do.  Bolock Island, too-YAY!

As a Rhode Islander, I think this little state gets over looked quite often. Between the metropolitan living of Providence to the coast towns of Westerly and Newport, RI is a diverse place to live.

\"Providence Reclaimed" I always felt a warm fuzzy feeling for RI (my home state) Roger Williams is smiling up there.

With the Knowledge Corridore on defunct 195 land ,;this may just be the start of Richard Florida's theory.

Ginny, I was born and raised in Providence and your well written article makes me nostalgic for home. BTW, New Orleans ain't so hot... it's as dangerous as hell.
