Wow! I could respond with the world's longest comment but let me just say I agree with you!!!! Just one comment - Our party checkers are ancient. In fact, it really has become somewhat of a problem.
And thank you for your nice words. My town has been very supportive of my business and serving on our town council is my way of giving back.
Linda, I was trying to be nice about age, but you are right. These are great people, but that process needs to be computerized and they will not be able to handle that.
Election days are long days for me, but I get a lot of satisfaction from doing it.
Rich, those are all good organizations, as well as other service groups. The groups that you mention do a lot of good work, most of the people in the Real Estate Industry in my area are involved in or more of them.
The reason why I put emphasis on getting involved in working the local elections, is because I don't think that people in this Industry think of this as a means of Networking so I wanted to bring awareness to it. The other reason is because of the age of the people doing most of that work right now. They are a little bit up in age and will not be able to handle that changes that have to happen sooner or later. People in the Real Estate Industry have those skills and could accelerate those changes. Not only can we help to modernize the system, but build our business at the same time.
Brother Rich they need good people like you.
Angela, Election Day can be a long day, but it is very good exposure.
George - Students from the history classes from the high school sit in with the poll workers in East Lyme. Seems to work well.
I like your idea of adding another network though.
Phil, here in Middletown students in the Politics Class get grade credits for working a number of hours at one of the Head Quarters leading up to Election Day. Also for working the day of the election as unofficial checkers, or handing out things at the polls. We have had a couple of elections where they also served in an official capacity, but very few students want to commit to a 14 hour day.
I wish we could use them more, but the commitment to time has been a problem with them and with adults.
