10 Steps for Maintaining Foundations
- Make sure that the soil around your foundation is graded so that the water flows away from the foundation.
- Water can be trapped by raised flower beds that the borders do not allow water to escape.
- Place soaker hoses around your foundation to keep the soil damp during dry periods.
- Keep the majority of the shrubs around our house under 3 feet tall they need less water.
- Install root barriers to keep the larger trees from pulling water out from under the foundation.
- Use the downspout extensions or splash blocks on all down spouts.
- Make sure that all paved surfaces that border foundations slope away from your foundation.
- Keep the soil around your foundation between 2 to 4 inches below the brick line or siding line.
- If your sewer becomes blocked or backed up have it tested for leaks.
- Leaking sprinkler lines and pool circulating systems cause foundation problems. Have them tested for leaks.
