VETERANS DAY....A DAY TO REMEMBER, RECALL , RESPOND...
No one needs to be reminded that tomorrow is Veterans Day;
There were times past when this day was a 'given' school day-off;
Some businesses & offices were closed in observance of those who gave their ALL & those who are willing to so do;
Mail was suspended;
Only necessary retail entities were open.
These days--other than U.S Mail service & Governmental Offices, being closed-- are 'business as usual'
...that may strike some as wrong;
...that may strike some as a 'so what' item;
...that may strike some as 'what's new';
...that may strike some who are Veterans, or Active Duty Military as "that is how is should be"
Those of us who are Veterans, have spouses or family members who are or were [& ALL who are presently Active or Reserve Military] do understand that, as nice as it is to receive remembrances, it is far better if all do go about our daily job.
That is precisely why the vast majority do Volunteer for Military Service----
-------'so we all may ALWAYS be free to 'go about our daily job'.
Support and help sustain those who are wounded, returning [ed] from a war zone, & their individual families. If going about our daily jobs will make it possible for some to volunteer--then that is also a "job well done".
Tomorrow is the ONE Day that is set aside to remember & appreciate; but any who are involved with the Military do this day in & day out.
Thank you Gentlemen & Gentlewomen for being so strong enough to put your personal life on hold to serve our Country.
We all thank you for your self-sacrifice and your service.
May the God above Bless and Keep you.
Quoting President Woodrow Wilson : 11/ 11 / 1919:
" To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with a solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation."
thanks for the nice post, as a veteran and a spouse of an active duty service member, I really appreciate it!
Barb and Sal - a few moments isa pittance in time compared to what those who serve gave for us ..... it is the least we can do.
Barb & Sal - great pictures, wonderful post. I will be celebrating the day by golfing with some other veterans.
Carol....THANK You & your Husband--You are heroes to me. Sal is ex-Coast Guard, & 2 of my brothers were military as well. There is never enough ways to give words to your service & how "valued" are all Military persons Thanks for taking the time to comment. have a great Day & a good weekend.
Barb & Sal
Kathy...true words oft spoken by those who "Get It" I thank you for your kind words to ALL Veterans.
Have a good rest of the week.
Barb & Sal
Mike...THANK You for Your service; and if I am not mistaken--also to Your Son.
You enjoy your outing with those other Vets--hopefully all of you have received more thanks for what it was that you did for us--than the ugliness of ignorance-spoken by the ignoble few.
As I am typing this. the wreath laying at Arlington is being televised. Thank God that we can still do this in our great Country.
Barb & Sal
