Have you ever thought about if you could live anywhere in the world where would that be? globe Most of us probably have thought about that at one time or another.

Some have had the opportunity to live in many different locations while others might have lived in the same town their entire life.

As for me I was born and grew up in Pine Knoll Shores on the central coast in Eastern North Carolina--other places I have lived include:

  • Raleigh, N C
  • Wilmington, N C
  • Charleston, S C
  • Franklin, Tenn

and now I have a home in Hubert, N C which is really just an extension of Swansboro in Onslow County

So, my experience is definitely limited to the South.   So, back to the question "if I could live anywhere in the world, where would that be"?  I can't come up with an answer--I need to travel and see more of the world.

I've done some traveling inside and outside the United States and there are areas which I thought were beautiful and I really enjoyed visiting there.  But would I leave my beautiful little piece of real estate in Hubert, N C?  Umm, I just don't know.

I am interested in your answer to the question.  "If you could live aywhere in the world, where would that be'?

Hi Cynthia,
I know it would be somewhere warm--ok with me if the temperature never drops below 70 degrees so that does limit it.  How about somewhere on the Caribbean, that would be good.

Cynthia, That's one good question!  Out of the places I've seen and spent time in, I would have to say San Diego. The weather and beaches are everything I could want :)  I loved every minute I spent there the few times I went....

Simple....where life is good, people are fair and god is always close, is that on earth?  Nice question and different for everyone.  I moved 19 times before I graduated from high school so the thought of another move is just over the top for me.  Even if it was to a very special place.

I think it would be in North/South Carolina because the weather is fantastic, the people are warm and freindly, the food is amazing and the beaches are perfect. Just give me a margarita and I would be in heaven. My assistant is from North Carolina and wanted to get away after school...she now pines to get back. Y' all don't know how good you have it.

Cynthia-It seems as though everyone who commented all want a warm climate to live in except Gary who likes those cold, Michigan winters.  Like Gary, I have moved many times and lived in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Germany (Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia :)) and now, I have arrived in heaven on earth.  Hawaii is truly my favorite place to live and I am lucky enough to be here.  Aloha!

Anywhere in the world...  My employer in NJ offered the position of National Sales Manager for Western North America.  If I accepted the job, we had to move.  "Anywhere in the US or Canada west of the Mississippi, near a major airport."  We chose Tucson.  And we're staying.

I used to live in Zurich, Switzerland and it was heaven on Earth. There are warmer places that might tempt me, but the pristine beauty in your backyard, the intelligence of the city, and the central proximity to the rest of Europe could keep me happy for a very long time.

I'm from Michigan and even though I love the four seasons, I think I could do without a couple of them occasionally. I don't know why but I always thought I would love to live in Colorado. Something about the mountains and also I heard that they get sun almost 300 days a year! They would be great. Take care in the NC.

Good morning Cynthia,

excellent question and lovely post. You have the most interesting and varied blog subjects.

....I'm really not sure. I guess it would be one of four different places

1. On Sandy Island, an island of sand and pine trees and blueberry bushes out in the middle of Lake Nippissing, where I was born

2. Right here where I'm living now

3. In Italy on the meditteranean coast

4. Guelph, Ontario- my old university town

Well, besides Southport, my little piece of heaven is in Alleghany County near Sparta in NW North Carolina. We have a little place up there and there really is no place I love more. It reminds be of the Shanandoah Valley where I grew up. I've always wanted to live in Alaska. My daughter just got back from her 2nd trip to New Zealand and now I think I could just move there. There are so many beautiful places in the world. I'm always dreaming but the truth is I wouldn't take anything for living right where I am in at the mouth of the Cape Fear River in Southport, NC.

Hi Gary,
Well yes, I think we all desire that but not sure we're going to get that on earth.  Moved 19 times?  Was your Dad military?  That's a lot of moves.  Thanks for stopping in and commenting.

Hello David M.
You are one smart man!  LOL. Seriously, North Carolina is a great place to live, we have a great variety from our mountains to our coast (I'm a little partial to the coast).  We are friendly and our food is great.  Thank you for your comments.

Hi Neal,
Me too.  My parents spent some time there a couple of years ago and just loved it.

Now David K.
You are rubbing it in--LOL.  From all I hear, you are in paradise.  I really appreciate your comments.

Now Zurich is on my list of places to visit but the climate is not what I desire.  Thank you for stopping in and commenting.

Hi Jeffrey,
We have 4 seasons  on the East coast too, just some shorter than others.  Colorado is a beautiful state and a good choice, I'm sure.  I appreciate your comments.

Hello Jo,
I see you, like I, cannot settle on one place.  I love the Mediterranean coast, though when I visited there I was in the South of France, not Italy.  Lovely, lovely.  Thank you for adding your thoughts.

Hi Vicki,
Seems you do have two wonderful locations.  Alaska  is on my list to visit also, though I'll freeze.  Thanks for your comments.

This is a hard question for me.  I've lived in Utah my entire life and it's just home to me.  The comfort, quiet, and beauty.  I don't know that I would want to leave.  I would love to travel the world however, then maybe I'd find that answer to be different.  Thanks for the fun post.

Good Morning Julie,
Have you lived in the same town all your life?  I understand what you are saying, when the area you live in is wonderful, it is difficult to think about living anywhere else.  I'm with you on traveling--I hope to see much more of the world some day.

Yep!  I've lived in the same town I was born and raised in. Now I'm raising my own children here.  It's that comfort zone kinda thing.  I hope you get to see all of the world you want.  That's my dream, to travel and take a lot of beautiful pictures along the way.

Hi, Cynthia

When we leave Alaska in a few years, we'll be almost neighbors.  My wife is ready to move back to eastern NC.  Right now we're looking at Beaufort or Oriental 6 months out of the year and our sailboat in the Carribean the other six.  That's sounds pretty darn good right about now.

I relate to Gary's comment - moving is over the top for me too. Where I live is verrry nice and I've lived here over 40 years - wow that's a big number since I'm saying it! I love the open ocean - Oceanshores WA is one of my favorite places anywhere!

I would move almost anywhere for the right reasons.

Cynthia...I've had the good fortune, as an adult, to live in some neat places:  Rome, Italy (2 years), San German, Puerto Rico (4 years), Mogadishu, Somalia (1 year), Anchorage, Alaska, and a few other places in the good old U.S.A.

We moved to Lake Anna, VA 15 years ago.  We came here with the expectation that this was our retirement home as my husband had just stopped working.  At the time we could have gone virtually anywhere and this is what we choose.  Since then, we have had 10 grandchildren, all living in Virginia.  So I guess I would have to say LAKE ANNA.

Took me long enough!!!

Cynthia, hands down Hawaii.  I love my native state of Michigan - it is a beautiful place but if I were rich, it would be Hawaii, probably the big island. Gosh, now I am thinking aboutthose soft island breezes, fresh pineapple...... and winter is coming here...geez

Kathleen,
Well you are not moving now for sure.  If there is anything that will keep you in an area, it is grandchildren!

But boy, have you lived in some neat places.  Of the ones you mentioned, which was your favorite?

Hello Bonnie,
Sounds like you are ready for a Hawaiian vacation---February would be a good time, don't you agree?  Yes, Hawaii is a marvelous location but boy is the cost of living high!  I appreciate you stopping by and commenting.

Hi Cynthia,    If you've ever read my posts, you know it's the Texas Hill Country for me.   The scenery is incredibly beautiful, the people super friendly, the water, the air, the animals all give you a sense of everything right in the world.  It is a special place and it's my dream home.  Check out some of my pictures and you'll see what I mean. Have a great day! and thanks for letting me go on and on.:)

Cynthia...If I had to pick one place I would probably go back to Puerto Rico.  I loved the weather...although I was younger than and handled the heat and humidity better.  The main appeal surrounding Puerto Rico (when I typed surrounding I wasn't even thinking of the Caribbean but it is beautiful) is the proximity to the U.S.  where the family is.  It is nice to take a short non-stop flight there.

Both Italy and Somalia were outstanding.

Children and grandchildren do have a special place in my life.  I enjoy sharing mine as they share theirs with me.  Virignia here I stay!

Kathleen

P.S.  The comments are very intersting.  Great post.

Kathleen,
Puerto Rico sounds wonderful to me, I am a warm climate type person.  Love the Caribbean and so easy to get there.  I hope there is lots of travel in my future.

My brother lives in Great Falls, Va. where his wife grew up.  They really like that area.

Have a good evening.  I'm just about done for tonight.
