So I built a Facebook page. Now what?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential

A Facebook page left alone will act a lot like a website...

It can be found, but only if searched for.

Facebook

To get the most from your page, you need to be active with the page, and with Facebook

It will take time, but it is fun, productive and free...

4 Keys to a Successful Facebook Business Page:

  1. Build your Facebook community
Facebook is fun.  Connect with people and enjoy it.  Share pictures.  Funny jokes...
If someone posts something interesting, make a comment.  Click on the like button.  Wish someone happy birthday.  Poke someone...
Get involved!  The more you are involved with your friends, the more friends you will attract.
These friends will in turn be interested in you, and your activities.

  2. Suggest your page to your Facebook Friends
Many people are shy about self promotion.  Don't be.  Most of your "fans" will come from your friend base, at least at first...
So suggest your business page to all of them.

  3. Post new content regularly.
Every time my page posts anything, Ken Tracy Real Estate appears on the walls of my page's 500 fans.  That is a lot of advertising.  The more I post, the more often I am in front of my audience.  Remember, out of sight out of mind...
So post often.  Perhaps once a day.

  4. Engage your fans
The more interaction your page has with it's fans, the more fans that your page will attract...
Post questions.  Statistics.  Pictures.  Anything your fans might find interesting.
And your if a fan makes a comment (even a "like"), recognize them!  Everyone wants to be appreciated.

Have fun with Facebook.  There are plenty of ways to build your business...

Do what you enjoy.

Ken

Ken~ I just started mine a couple of months ago... I try to keep new content on it a couple times a week.  It is growing, slowly but growing!

I love Facebook!  It has made it easier to keep in touch with your friends and family which in turn become your SOI for referrals.  It has made it easier for my past clients to remember me when they hear of someone looking for a home because Facebook makes it so easy for them to get a hold of me.

Hi Ken... it's the age old issue of static, versus evolving and/or interactive.  Static is never a good approach in a rapidly changing world!

Facebook is a great way to stay in touch with friends and clients.  I have sold several homes to sorority sisters or people I went to high school with who found out I was a Realtor from Facebook.  It can be a very strong tool.  However, I do not think it is a good idea to start randomly adding everyone.  You need to have a balance between work and social (i.e. no in appropriate material but at the same time not everything should be about real estate or you will annoy your friends.).

I am having alot of fun with my personal as well as business pages I like to keep them separate so as not to burn out my friends who are not into hearing about business all of the time.

Ken, I am ashamed to admit that I built my fan page a couple of months ago and it is still blank... I guess it is not enough to create it... You need to nurture it... :O)

Thank you for posting.

Ken:  Yours is a great reminder to be consistent with our marketing efforts .. whether on Facebook or elsewhere.  I've personally left my presence more personal and my marketing on Facebook rather low key ... but I'm still amazed at how many contacts and comments I receive through my Fan Page and activity there.  You are definitely right that it can payoff .. with time and attention ...

Hi Ken, hope all is well with you.  Facebook is so so social.  It's quick and easy.  Even my mom loves it.

Hi Ken: Another great post. Glad I'm not in Naperville and competing against you and your army of 500. I forbid you crossing the border into Kane County ;-).

I'm still a tad suspicious of FB. I hear my grandmother in my head....I must be ancient, I hear her saying that a lady's name was only in the paper 3 times: her birth, her marriage and her death.  I'll have a lot of explaining to do when I cross through the pearly gates.

Hi Leslie, Jenny, Gene, Margaret, and Allen.  Thanks!

Leslie, I would be just a blip in the radar!

Melissa, you said you were adding fans but slowly.  That reminds me of the line, "It doesn't matter how fast you are moving, asl long as you are going forward."  Keep at it...

Consistency is key.  W/ all marketing...

Thanks again everyone!

Hi Mary.  Thanks!

I have lots of ideas on the subject of social media.  I always thought it would be a fad.  Now I am not so sure...

Thanks again,
