Halloween is over and it's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. This weekend the pumpkin and witch decorations go back up in the attic and the Christmas items come down. We'll decorate for Christmas just before Thanksgiving. A couple of years ago we decided that the Christmas decorations didn't stay up long enough. It seemed we were putting them away as quickly as we had taken them out. So, now we get them up just before Thanksgiving.
But, how about decorating that home for the holidays when it's on the market for sale?
A couple of things to remember:
Holiday decorations can add warmth to a home. But, don't over do it. Buyers are coming to look at the house. Too many Christmas items deter a buyer's view of the property.
When the tree goes up, some of the furniture should come out. Otherwise, the rooms may appear too small or too cluttered.
The smell of a crisp fresh tree and cinnamon candles can stimulate the senses of buyers looking at the home.
Don't put expensive items under the tree. Keep those locked or hidden away somewhere.
Don't forget a few nice, tasteful yard decorations. They can add a bit of festive curb appeal.
Often sellers have family come to stay for the holidays, so they turn down showings. Although often, we find that the buyers in the market are fewer during the holidays, typically the ones that are out are the serious ones. So, try to accomodate as many showings as possible.
