buying a home during these holiday months

Working with clients, I am frequently asked if buying a home in the last two months of the year is a good idea or not. With the business of life and the holidays frequent, that is a very good question. So, here are some pros and cons in my opinion: Pros: Lack of buyer competition. Many home buyers take a break during this time. Some just want to wait until tax season. Inventory of homes. With property holding over from the summer months, there are a lot of homes that are available. Motivated sellers. Some sellers are getting nervous about the days their home has been on the market. They might be more willing to look at lower priced offers. Interest rates are very low. Who knows what the new year might bring? Take advantage of the rates while we have them. Cons: Weather restrictions for showings, inspections, moving, and holiday closures. Tax issues. Maybe you are not quite sure what your tax situation might be so you might want to hold off until a clearer picture is available. School in session. Now might not be the best time to have your kids change schools if you move into another district. Inter city or area transfers might not be available. All in all, it always comes down to what my clients personal issues are. Weighing both sides is always a good idea to walk them through. What are some pros and cons that you might consider when deciding to buy a home in this market?
