Home Fall Clean Up - DESERT STYLE! -- Phoenix, AZ
Now that the Phoenix area has seen an enormous drop in temperature and more of us are bundling up just a little bit (light coat versus none at all), we're all welcoming the winter season.
BUT! Before we get to winter, we MUST take a look around our home and begin the fall cleanup -- desert style.
As we being hanging up our fall-themed wreaths and lighting our cinnamon-scented candles, take a look at both the interior and exterior of the home.
Is there a lot of clutter? Normally at the onset of winter & the Christmas season, the homes are just filled with unnecessary items -- especially in the garage -- including old Christmas lights, dated items used to decorate the home, and things you'd never use, probably never again. So why not start a garage sale or donate the items?
Let's kick off this fall clean up and rid your home of a lot of clutter. Trust me; it'll be worth it once December rolls along…especially once the gifts are purchased, piled under the tree and begin arriving to your home!
Now let's take a look at the exterior of the home. How does the lawn look? While a lot of us desert dwellers don't have lawns, those that do may want to start taking a look at how to take care of the grass. Begin thinking about winterizing the garden beds -- don't do it just yet, but keep it in the back of your head.
And of course, there's the fall leaves pick up! Racking the leaves and mowing the lawn seem like a hassle, but it's necessary if you haven't already! You'll also want to clean out your gutters, check your exposed pipes and be sure your home is sealed up for the winter time -- so no heat escapes your home, especially through the windows.
Now let's move on to the backyard. How is the pool looking? Are there leaves in the pool? With the drop in temperature, pool usage may be nearing its end for the year, so be sure to clean it before you cover it up for the rest of the season. And remember to continue to backwash it, too!
For those with cactus in their yards, remember that during the fall season -- the dormant season for cacti -- the plant should be watered no more than every few weeks. I mean, we do live in Arizona, and if you have cacti, this is important so they don't die on you!
Just because it's fall season and you're out and about more often doesn't mean your home still doesn't need the attention! A clean home is a happy home. So be sure to keep up with it! :)
