Cindy's Blog about Portland, Oregon and stuff
When a friend e-mailed us and said he had two extra tickets for a premier wine tasting event called ¡Salud! The Oregon Pinot Noir Auction and asked if we wanted to go....we quickly responded YES!
Last nights function was held at the Domaine Drouhin winery in Dundee Hills...just on the border of Dundee and Dayton. Since it started at 3PM, It took us about 50 minutes to get there from our home in West Linn as this was prime traffic hour on a Friday night. On a normal weekday, it wouldn't have taken so long. The drive was worth it and as you can see from the picture, it was a gorgeous fall day in Yamhill County, so pretty country to drive in.
When we entered the winery, we were told there were three floors. On each floor were Oregon's most celebrated wineries pouring samples of their very best 2009 vintage Pinot Noirs, custom-made solely for ¡Salud!. There were 42 wineries in this event. So..I will say that although It killed me to pour wine into those small vessels...there was NO way I could have tasted all 42 samples and stood up at the end of the evening! As was I can say I was feeling pretty good!
So I sipped, tasted and consentrated on the wineries that I wasn't familiar with. I enjoyed some very tasty food from two seperate buffets as well as the little bites from the trays of food being walked around. Have you ever tasted bacon dipped in chocolate??? This girl was in heaven is all I can say! Yeah, sounds odd..but OMG..Pinot Noir and chocolate..enough said!
This event and auction was all for a good cause. It was created to help provide the migrant workers and their families that work the orchards the health care they need. At last look, there were bottles that were up to $1,400 and counting. Tonight is the second half of this event which is a black tie shindig held at the Governor Hotel in Portland.
Here is a link to the event so you can read in more detail about the wineries that were there and why this event was created.
