We Waited on the WRONG Patio? MLS GLITCH?

By
Real Estate Agent with California Lifestyle Realty DRE# 1780607

Today I was showing homes to a Canadian couple seeking a sunny getaway from Vancouver.  We had toured several homes in different neighborhoods and came to one of our final homes.  78098

I could not locate the lock-box, and there was no "for sale sign", but the address was correct, so my weary buyers strolled up the side of the house and settled into the lounge chairs on the patio, (with gorgeous golf course views) and waited for me to gain entry.

I phoned the  agent's assistant and asked where to find the lock-box... she said the address did not sound familiar.  But I was holding the MLS print-out in my hand, with address, agent, etc.  It was her listing!

She called me back a few minutes later and said " there has been an MLS GLITCH... our listing is 78118."

So we walked up the street... ( after my clients had fallen in love with the patio that was not for sale ) and found her real listing.  Not quite the patio they had in mind.

How funny if the owners had come home to find us lounging on their patio?  Perhaps we could have made an offer!

Do you believe this was "an MLS GLITCH"... or agent error?   Has this ever happened to you?

Kathy, you just never know? Perhaps the homeowners with the beautiful patio are thinking of selling in the near future? :)

If it was a new listing, it was probably the agent's error. These things do happen.

Kathy, who knows, but not to look foolish I find a lot of people tend to place blame somewhere else other than their own doorstep or patio as it were!

Canadians, eh?

Yes, a lot of my fellow Canadians are buying in US. Our dollar is within 1 cent of yours (it has come up over the past year considerably.) A number of years ago we had a lot of Americans buying here on beautiful Vancouver Island.

I got a comment on one of my blogs recently form an agent in Phoenix area saying that if Canadians weren't buying, their market would be much slower than it is.

Shannon, I know many Canadians are heading south for bargains, but they are tending to go to southern California, Arizona, Nevada, etc. where it is warm. Send me a message and tell me about your area.

Years ago when I was looking for a home, the agent took me to the wrong home and even went inside. The owner was in bed asleep. I never forgot that. It was funny but stressful too.

Kathy.....Most likely agent error.  The MLS generally shows what has been input.  Hope you find them another beautiful patio!

If they entered the wrong APN number there is a chance the wrong property would be listed or I've seen it where the APN number is associated with more than one property or the wrong property....I have gone to the wrong house trying to put the lock box and sign on it!
