Last week I finally did something I should have done a couple of years ago: I replaced the single-paned windows in my home office with double-paned ones.
In the winter, my office is easily the coldest room in the house, since it was originally a covered patio, later enclosed. The cold temperature in the morning makes my computer hard to start. I'm not kidding. It took me hours of work, research, and frustration the last two winters trying to figure out why my hard drive wouldn't boot up properly. The problem would magically go away in the spring. Instead of replacing the computer, which was not even a year old when it first started to happen, I replaced the windows. They are an investment, not an expense.
Now I am looking forward to much more pleasant working conditions and an even better view of my garden. I no longer have to close all the blinds just to keep warm. Part of the reason I like to work from home is being able to look out the windows at the trees, birds, squirrels, clouds, and sunshine.
