The Medal Of Honor

On Veterans Day I wrote a post about how we owe our veterans everything, everyday.

I used George Orwell's famous quote..."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

That's all of us, folks. We take our "peace in our beds" for granted way too often.

Tuesday President Obama will present the "Medal Of Honor" to a rare living recipient, one SSG Sal Guinta, who did what virtually all soldiers would do in the situation he found himself in. He charged the enemy to rescue a fellow soldier, who had been wounded 4 times, and was being dragged off by the Taliban, in a deadly combat zone in Afghanistan. The wounded soldier was one of his closest friends in his unit. Sadly the wounded soldier passed away from his wounds.

Take time to wish SSG Guinta, his wife Jenny, and all our troops well this Tuesday. Think about them everyday. Every day should be Veterans Day.

I saw his story last night - what a gentle man he is and is comment when asked if he was a good soldier - "I'm just average - you should see the good ones" almost made me cry.  His humility was as inspiring as his actions.

Thank you for sharing this.
