Squeeze 91 Extra Days in to Your Year
I always used to relish my down time. When I first started in the real estate business I listened intently as the wise ones preached the mantra of controlling your business, and not let it control you. For the most part I've been fairly successful at leaving the office at 4:00 PM and enjoying a relaxing evening at home to work on my hobbies.
Of course when duty calls I always deal with it immediately no matter the time of day or night. That's a necessity in the real estate business, otherwise I'd be doomed to failure and that would never sit well with me. I have found though that if I work extra hard during the day, I'm already doing more than 80% of the REALTORS® out there so I'm way ahead of the game.
One thing I started noticing was that I was getting tired. Going to bed at 11 or 12 after staring at the television was wearing me out. Nothing really good was coming out of that, and I was not being at all productive during those hours. I even went to a sleep clinic so they could figure out why I was so tired. I already know the answer and the results are not yet in.
I started going to bed at 9 PM instead of 11 PM. To my surprise, I got a good solid sleep right through to at least 5:30 and was able to start my work day two hours earlier, refreshed, having had a full 8 ½ hours sleep! I still put in an honest day's work right up until at least 4 PM, so while it doesn't sound like much it's still a 10 ½ hour day, which by most standards is quite long, and that doesn't even include evenings and weekends where I am on appointments!
Now here are the calculations; figure them out. By going to bed two hours earlier, I am able to rise two hours earlier and finish up all those lose ends I could never get to before. Over a year that amounts to 730 hours of productive time, verses TV time. Divide that by a standard 8 hour work day and there you have it. A full 91 extra days of productive time! That's an extra 25%.
Now I could say that I can now earn 25% more but really it doesn't really work that way. That 25% that I am now spending on my business can actually double my sales potential. It's just how it works, because I need a certain amount of "gas" just to get me going. Any extra, is leveraged exponentially.
