It's "National Pikes Peak Day". Zebulon Pike tried to scale the mountain in Nov. 1806 for 2 days - never made it! This the West Side View:

My husband and I drove Pike's Peak a couple of years ago. Beautiful views. Loved it but it was a very scary drive. Colorado is a very beautiful state. My husband was stationed there in the USAF, at Falcon AFB, from 1989 to 1991.

I think we stopped and cooled brakes too. Glad we did it once and got the T-Shirt at the top that says, "Got Oxygen?" Don't think we will do it again though.
