Sometimes it's easy to get lost in your own neighborhood in Los Angeles. The city is huge--so you find your favorite spots and stick to 'em. 10 years ago, Atwater Village was still considered "transitional"--it was edgy but cute, but many still preferred Silverlake and Echo Park.

How times have changed!

For example, one of my favorite vintage clothing shops, Come 2 Mama, relocated from Sunset Junction to Atwater Village (3015 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039) recently. For years, Terri Mussatti and her fantastic, whimsical shop of custom dyed slips and handpicked vintage lived on Sunset Blvd., but she's found renewed energy and edge in Atwater, and we are so happy for her!Come 2 Mama Vintage

Plus, you can still get authentic and delicious Mexican food for under $5. Tacos Villa Corona at 3185 Glendale Blvd. is a family-owned venture which has been in the neighborhood for 17 years. We had lunch for 2 plus a drink for $9 yesterday. It's plain to see why artists and musicians are venturing to live here--you can afford to eat!

There's also a small but fantastic farmer's market every Sunday in the Wells Fargo bank parking lot at 3250 Glendale Blvd. from 10am-2pm. And a Whole Food (not be confused with Whole Foods) grocery store right on the main strip!

Yesterday, as I was strolling down Glendale Blvd., I encountered the sound of Flamenco music coming out of a dance/yoga studio. I discovered there were chairs and tables, with umbrellas, that the public could sit at. We delighted in the live music and stomping, the sweet November breeze, and our $9 lunch. I fell in love with Atwater Village.

And the real estate is still affordable. I've seen several amazing Spanish-style renovations hop on and off the market in Atwater in the past couple of weeks. The sunny streets are so charming, and to be within walking distance of all the great shops? It's true Village living, so close to Los Feliz, Hollywood and the freeways.
