Do you have a large closet in the basement that isn't being used? Install pocket doors on it, add cabinets, a counter top and mirrors. You now have an instant mini-bar. A creative way to give function to that unused space.

Choose a favourite saying and purchase the lettering for it. Affix the letters to decorative paper and have it framed for your bedroom. Also a fun project for the kids.

Build a wooden bench with cubby holes underneath. Add an upholstered cushion and voila - you have a great seat/shoe storage area for your mud room.

For a luxe library, cover the top 2/3 of a prominent wall in panelling that has been upholstered in cream coloured, tufted fabric.
