Square in downtown Newton
Sponsored by the Newton Festival & Events Committee, this event officially kicks off the holiday season with the lighting of thousands of lights in the downtown area, followed by a wide variety of activities for everyone.
Santa and his elves will arrive in downtown Newton for free photos with the children. Families can also enjoy a free hayride from the Square through the historic district, courtesy of the Foothills Antique Power Association, which will also have a variety of antique tractors on display. For a slight cost, children can enjoy a ride on Bubba the Camel.
Christmas music will fill the air that evening, with entertainment from a variety of community groups, including the Newton-Conover High School Stage Band, the Startown Elementary School Chorus, the Newton-Conover Middle School Chorus, the South Newton/Thornton Elementary School Children’s Choir, and a song from the cast of “Annie.”
A variety of concessions will be available:
hotdogs (Thornton Elementary School)
BBQ sandwiches (Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church)
baked goods and drinks (Newton-Conover Middle School Choir Boosters)
egg rolls (Newton-Conover High School International Club)
cocoa (Newton Elks Lodge)
