Williamson County School Board Rezoning, WCS Approved a Revised Rezoning plan on November 15th, 2010

Regardless of where you live in Williamson County and regardless of whether you have children or even if they attend public school, you have heard about the pending vote on Dr. Looney's Williamson County School Rezoning plan. On November 15, 2010 the WCS Board to vote on several issues including Rezoning. The board and Dr. Looney reviewed the revised plan and then approved the new plan in a 10 to 2 vote. There was strong opposition to the original plan and the revised plan as well as the methodology behind the process for rezoning plans. Local Williamson County Tax payers have even created a website to explain their viewpoint on this change and have setup a petition to show the board the magnitude of residents that are not in agreement with this change. http://www.wctaxpayers.com is one such website where the questions have been brought up for the Board to consider in making their decision to cast their vote. We will keep you informed of updates to the 2011-2012 Williamson County School Zone Mapping as the County School website http://www.wcs.edu/zone_query.htm

My opinion is that when School Boards try to implement zoning that is met with opposition, that ultimately the parents will do what is necessary to have their children go to school where the parents desire them to go. There are lots of options from cross county relocation to private schooling. These unknown factors will influence future zoning studies and will likely mandate future changes. So as a real estate practitioner, I would point out the disclaimer that is listed on the Williamson County School Board website:

"Notice to Home Buyers and Current Residents Please be aware that with the current growth and the number of schools in our county, the Williamson County School System will only guarantee the current school zoning for one year."

Unless your children are set to attend a rezoned school in the next two school years, making drastic changes now may mean future opposition later as the school board has to re-balance due to unexpected changes by parents choosing their school by relocating.
