10 Ways to get more comments on your blog posts

Reblogger Andrzej Niemyjski

One of the long time AR user Praful Thakarr  posted a great blog on suggestions how to increase comments on your blogs.  I believe one of the main objective of Active Rain when it was first created was to create interaction between people in real estate business and posting comments is one way for sure

Have you ever wondered why your blog posts did not get a single comment? Do you want more comments on your posts?

Here are 10 Ways To Get More Comments On Your Blog Posts. (not in any specific order of importance.)

1. Start with a catchy title. Like this one..:-). A 'n ways to...' or a question like 'Droid or iPhone?. Or...'The Secrets of...'. I may have to write a complete post about this topic - not here. Make sure your content pertains to the title.

2. Select a 'hot' topic. Like 'Droid or iPhone?'. Knowing that these two smartphones cover more than 80% of smartphone market share, you are more likely to get comments on this as compared to writing a post that describes great features of either of these smartphones.

3. Ask questions. Be honest. Ask questions only if you do not know the answer. Google is there to answer most of your questions so please do not expose your ignorance.

4. Comment on others blog posts. It's a two-way street. If you have built a relationship with someone, please make some meaningful comments on some of their posts, if not all posts. This is a way to build relationships in the community.

5. Build relationships with others in your blogging community. Refer them by name. Get to know them. Look at their profile and find out more about them. It's about 'THEM', not you!

6. Comment on the comments. It's natural to ignore comments when you get too many. Respond to the comments of your commentator, perhaps by using '@' sign with their names - or at least thank them for stopping by and commenting on your posts.

7. Just be YOURSELF. Do not try to 'stuff' the post with literary work. Keep it simple. Do not camouflage your personality. (like I did by using this metaphor.)

8. Limit the size of your posts. It is easy to write a long blog posts but remember, unless it is very interesting post on interesting topic, most of the readers will 'run-away'. People are busy - respect their time.

9. Reward your commentators. I came across Margaret Rome's post today where she offers her autographed book 'Real Estate the Rome Way' for every 10th comment on her listing posts. (I wish I could do the same, but for that, I will have to write a book!)

And if nothing else works...

10. Just Request Comments. It's my shameless plug! I'd appreciate if you can comment on this post on what is good and what is not. Can you add some more points to this topic - '10 Ways to Get More Comments on Your Blog Posts'?

Some good points here.  The most successful blogs in terms of comments are about topics of current interest or about controversial ideas.

Shameless or not....ask and you shall receive!  I would add one more to your list: don't be nasty or you will be boycotted.  Just saying.......

Thanks for posting these helpful tips.  I am most mindful of #3 in that the written word can not translate the emotion behind what you may be saying and that can lead to trouble in how you are viewed.

Donna and Micheal,

You welcome, I follow Praful's  blog he has lots of knowledge that he likes to share with others.  For example he did 30 useful websites series which was just great.

Eric, Robert and Joan,

Yes those are great tips.

Gary,

I totally see your point but at this point written word is the most common way to communicate via internet.  I guess maybe we can use YouTube to show emotions but that would take way more time.   Maybe in the near future posting a video would be just a simple making comment response like this one.

Lorraine,

I agree with you, when a person disagrees with your post/view they there are nice ways to present objections or present your point of view you just dont need to be nasty.  But than again it maybe what Gary said that written word was not received correctly and person thinks the other person posted nasty message but the written may not wanted to present it that way it just came out that way.

Hi Andrzej -- I wish this kind of info existed when I started on AR -- I just kind of fumbled my way around and posts like this one goes a long way to helping members know how to really use this powerful platform.  I was so clueless when I started.  I'm only semi-clueless now LOL!
