Putting my $220 In Savings To Work ..... For Others
Synergism Works -Time and Time Again
Have you ever watched a TV program where a group of people do something, collectively, for the good of others? Did It ever strike you how working together they accomplished much more than possible as individuals. Did you realize what a life changing experience it was for the organizers, participants and recipients?
After reading the following story you will know what I would be doing with the $220 I could save by using Kodak Ink. I can do it again, Just imagine the results.
A Lesson In Sharing
On my birthday a few weeks ago, Barrie treated us to dinner, our twin girls, their husbands, and our six grandchildren. During dinner I introduced the First Annual Grandma Challenge. I handed each family an envelope. They were challenged to use the contents to make my Christmas one of Joy. Their instructions; take the money, give it directly to some one in need. Better yet, use it as seed money to multiply the amount, then give it to someone in need.
It was to be a family affair, all had to commit to the task or hand the money back right then as the offer would self destruct in 10 minutes. All 10 committed to do something with the funds as a family, to enrich a worthy recipient's life or cause.
One family used the funds as the entrance fee to enter a walkathon, even the 2 year old is committed, to raise funds for a Salvation Army shelter. For the last 3 years both our children's families have baked cookies then delivered them on Christmas morning, joining them in the carol sing, before heading to our country home.
The other daughter is an amazing baker, her family decided they would all work together to make some of her unique gingerbread Christmas trees to donate to a fundraiser auction for Matthew House, my favorite Charity. Last year one tree she made brought $150.00 at the auction.
My Christmas present is to be a little note from each child telling me what they did, how it impacted the recipient, and what they learned from this. Personally, I can't wait until Christmas! What an investment!
It will be an interesting journey for my grandchildren ..... to watch something that was given to them be multiplied into so much more for someone else...... paying it forward, Grandma style.
So Now You Know.....
I would create a way to multiply the savings and invest them in a charity, be it Matthew House, our Ghana Health Team, the Food Bank or another worthy charity.
This post is for the ActiveRain 'I could save $220 with Kodak Contest. I have a chance to win a free Kodak Printer, $220 in cash to use for the idea in my blog post, and an extra $100 to use toward ink!"
