Unexpected Wind Storm - OK Time to Prepare for Winter - I Get It!!

By

The Olympia WA area had an unexpected wind storm last night that took down some trees, and LOTS of limbs and branches.  And left quite a few of us with no power through the night and continuing today.  Our power went off briefly, came back on long enough for me to go fill up a couple of pitchers of water (just in case), snuggle back down to watch Dancing with the Stars - then bam, off again for the night.

I know they are predicting a possibly snowier than normal winter, but it is only mid-November - and we were not really ready for a storm & power outage.  Off I went to locate a battery-operated candle to turn on so I could find matches and light some more candles.  Where is the battery-operated radio??  And does it have any batteries??

The dog and the cats were freaking out just a bit at the sudden darkness punctuated by the chirps of the smoke detector.  And the wind sounded awfully loud when you consider all the TALL trees near our house...

Still no power this morning, so off we trekked to the nearest Starbucks - hmmmm no power there either!  On to the next - ahhh power on and a line of people almost out the door.  Most of us looked a little worse for wear and lack of showers as that section of town is primarily on wells like we are - no power, no water!  But OK, coffee in hand, things are looking better.

Found the battery-operated radio just in time to hear them say that the power outage was extensive and Puget Sound Energy said they might not have everyone's power restored until Thursday.  What!!?!  It's only Tuesday!!!  I'm not sure if I am more concerned about the lack of shower availability, the food in the freezer that might start thawing - or wondering whether we will have power back in time to watch tonight's Dancing with the Stars!  Just saying...

The radio also said that most of the westside of town had power, so I headed for the office to get to lights, heat, water, computers - ahhh!  And had to laugh at how many people had already forgotten how exactly the traffic rules work when the traffic lights are not working at an intersection.  NOt sure we are ready for a snowier than normal winter - but I do know my family is going to stock up on candles, batteries, bottled water, etc, etc.  Time to get ready before the NEXT storm!
