Took the Day off and Left Town...

This week has been great.  A friend of mine has been visiting and we took a trip out to Joshua Tree National Park.  I did not know how close it was to us and this was our first visit.

Joshua Tree is located about an 1 1/2 hours from Orange County.  The best time of year to go is in spring when the Joshua Trees are blooming but we still had a great time in September.  The weather was mild for this time of year...only 99 degrees!  That's still hot for me.  But as you can see, we still had a great time...

Two highlights of the trip were the Cholla Cactus Gardens.  They look like they are something out of a Dr. Seuss Book.

Another great place to stop is the Cottonwood Spring Oasis.  This is right near the south entrance of the park.  The pictures do not do it justice.  Imagine driving through the Colorado Desert, not seeing any greenery and then coming upon the oasis.  It was pretty amazing to see.

Patrick...these are fantastic photograps.  You look like you're having a good time.  What...no Joshua Trees in Ireland?

My in-laws lived in Anaheim Hills...remember that small airplane that crashed into a home there?  That's the home they moved out of only a few weeks earlier!  This was about 4 years ago.

5 for great photos and a good travel suggestion for the OC types.  Thanks!

Hi Joey.

That is amazing that your in-laws lived in that house!

No Joshua Tree's In Ireland. LOL.  No hot weather either! I just realized I did not include a picture of the Joshua Tree itself.  Here is is...

Patrick,

Great photos, and I am envious you were right by me yesterday, but we were having very different desert experiences :) :)  I am glad you not only went to Joshua Tree, but stopped and saw the dinosaurs.  did you know the original one, not the T-Rex was in many movies including a Pee Wee Herman one?  This area has a ton of History, and glad you got to enjoy it.  Joshua Tree is also a favorite place of my friends from Scotland, and hold your hat.....Ireland :)

Patrick great photos!  I guess the weather we have been experiencing lately in Anaheim Hills has prepared you for the trip.

Too much heat and sand without a golf course or beach attached to it.

I hope you took plenty of beer to stay hydrated.

Kathy Everyone should stop to see the dinosaurs when they go out there. LOL! I forgot they were in Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure.  Did you know at night their eyes and teeth are lit up?

Andrew It was actually a little cooler out there than it was in Anaheim Hills last week.  What was it, 109 degrees?  That must have been a record.  It is hard for the irish to breath in that heat ;)

Jo-Anne It was great!  Lots of fun ;)

Joe Beer is probably not the best idea out there! LOL.  I was drinking water all day and was still thirsty when we were leaving!

Patrick,

I am not sure if I have knew they lit up or not.  And very wise to only drink water......the desert can really dehydrate you :) Love your pictures, so clear .....

Patrick I loved this post!!!  Those pictures are FANTASTIC!  I feel like I'm right there.  I'm glad you added the picture of the Joshua tree because I was wondering what it was.  We have plenty of hot weather in Alabama but no Joshua Trees (that I know of)  :-D

Its good to get away and have a great day and relax and regroup!

Hi Kimberly,

i am gad you liked the post.  I took the pictures with my new camera! ;)  It has been fun learning how to use it.  I don't think there are any Joshua Trees in Alabama, they grow in arid climates.

Hi Corina,

I would really love to camp there.  Supposedly it is not as clear as it used to be but I am sure it is still beautiful.
