I just had to pass this on.  Yes its a bit dated, and the Giants belong to San Francisco, but we can all bask in the Baseball

HOMETOWN GIANTS WIN WORLD SERIES! 11/1/10 8:47 PM

Took a lifetime but the baseball heroes of my youth finally won the oldest American sports championship, the World Series. Defeating the Texas Rangers this evening 4 games to 1. W Bush was once chairperson of the Rangers, shortly after falling off the wagon for the last time and escaping an oil exploration company's bankrupcy in the nick of time to allow for a checkered political legacy. Guess which state has never won a world series? W's adopted TEXAS that's who, with the Rangers franchise drought reaching 50 years, the Astros 49! perhaps tis an omen that the largest blue state will help stave off a red stampede come election day tomorrow. But here in the most beautiful city in America, ragtag castoffs in the field, and young babes on the mound, ended a depressing run of almosts dating back to Willie Mays' phenomenal over the shoulder catch in the '54 series when my Giants roamed the Polo Grounds of New York City. Mays came west, joined by such luminaries of my childhood as Marichal, McCovey, and Cepeda, but no championships. and yes my global friends, it is a tad bit ethnocentric to suggest that we are World Champions, even if baseball is as culturally central to American history as footie is to the world's. but let me have my day, and let me celebrate with a team whose world series mvp is from Colombia. GIANTS ROCK!! now if only my Golden Bears from alma mater Cal could find a way to even go to the Rose Bowl. was in my mother's womb when they last were there, losing to Iowa, with my parents in the stands. I CAN STILL DREAM CAN'T I!
