Who Will Stop the Sheep?
This really became apparent to me while standing in line at the local Post Office. I watched while folks exiting pressed past patrons lined up to enter the facility. Stepping out of line, I walked to the other door and pulled. It opened. Everyone stopped and looked. Lines shifted. As I walked back to my place in line, I wondered, who will stop the sheep?
As a whole, society seems lost. We go through the motions but where are we going? Every glimmer of hope in the real estate, market is quickly squelched by the talking heads in the media. Buyers/sellers poisoned by the venom spewed by the media are paralyzed. They buy into the collective mindset, "all is doom and gloom", and do nothing. I wonder, who will stop the sheep?
Sure, we can blog and talk to sellers/buyers, now is the time to buy/sell. We can spit in the wind too. So, faced with a media, whose sole bent is on broadcasting the negative; elected officials that are hell bent on pushing their objectives for the good of their party; and citizens hoping and wishing for a change we can all really believe in; I wonder, who will step up to the plate? Who will stop the sheep?

Sheep are just as important as wolves. The problem is lack of REAL leadership. The media just irritates the problem.
Dale, that became very obvious the other day. Have a good one man...
Rene, you hit the nail on the head - one at a time...
Cindy, Great point, lead by example. Not too many folks do that...
Conrad, Clang, clang, clang...
Joshua, true, but were are the strong leaders?
James. True. I often think we would be better off without the media constantly in our faces...
Michael, the other lesson here is when there are sheep there are often wolves lurking near by...being a passive follower can make you an easy target too.
Michael, we got tired of being part of the herd. We returned our 3 cable boxes almost 2 years ago. We were just tired of listening to the doom and gloom. If something really bad happens, we will hear about it. It is easier to be in a positive frame of mind without the negative bashing.
Good morning Michael; I concur, most of us are followers, That's why we need a good Shepard. However every once in a while someone steps up to the plate and hits a home run.
The first thing is to make sure that we aren't sheep. :) Then, one at a time we can make a difference. There will always be sheep... we just need to shift them to follow a different source.
Not to beat a dead horse, but your analogy is so true. Better to hang with the herd than step out of line and get eaten by a wolf! Right???!!!!
Michael if there are enough sheep not being watched over eventually the wolves win.
So interesting... I bet if you didn't get back in line a mob would start!!!!!! But you are sooo right!
Michael, it's not that you're not smart enough to run...it's that you're too smart to run. We've seen way too many bad politicians, but good or bad, they do, like sheep, get slaughtered. I wouldn't want the job. I feel guilty sometimes because I know it's true that, "All that is necessary for evil to win is for good men (and women) to do nothing."
I know you remember, "QUESTION AUTHORITY." Do we dare now?
It just goes to show you that leaders are still hard to find. Leaders look for better alternatives but they have to think. I'll bet most of the people in line were too busy talking or texting to think.
Michael - this post reminded me of the blank empty stares I would see in peoples eyes when I used to commute to San Francisco and the East Bay (Oakland) on public transit. People were almost in a robotic trance. I had to get out of that situation, it was so depressing.
My initial thought was if the sheep stop they could get sheared. Others pointed out the wolf analogy. It seems more like lemmings to the cliffs at the sea. I'll keep an eye for that post from you.
Mel
Hopefully the leaders that have driven the car into the ditch can get it out and "do-it" for the good of the entire country and not just a few.
Hi Michael! Hmmm...not me and not you but, collectively together, I hope that WE can do something soon! Oddly enough, those who I have spoken to in the past who never believed that the media was the least bit biased, have definitely had their eyes opened up these last couple of years. I'm glad and I think that the elections spoke volumes as to the unity of the PEOPLE of this nation--now we just need to get our leaders on-board. If we can't, then let 'em go!
And, I'd vote for you too!
;-)
It seems that no matter how much our elected officials listen the less they end up hearing.
I've got a baaaahd feeling about this.
I think the "Sky is falling" negativity has cooled down a lot lately, There was a time when EVERY media story was about the housing crisis.
You are looking at the future of health care Michael. Don't think for a minute that "they" don't want sheep...
Michael, good point. Possibly the only people who can stop the "sheep" are the "sheep" themselves, by deciding to rely on themselves and choose their own path
