PRODUCTIVITY #101...OR: WHY DO SOME PEOPLE SUCCEED AND OTHERS DON'T?!

By
Real Estate Agent with Douglas Elliman Real Estate 30HA0800896

PRODUCTIVITY #101....or: WHY DO SOME PEOPLE SUCCEED AND OTHERS DON'T?  This is the way to success, I have found....and I have seen others in the same frame of mind. Maybe it's the attitude; maybe it's the energy generated that gives one the desire to keep on going at the fast pace that is needed.

You all know the feeling: You are exhausted and you HAVE to get more done before you can even sit down at the computer to finish looking for comps for a new client....the list of things to do never ends!

This is my motto and I keep it on my blackboard in my kitchen...just to remind myself every day:THE MORE PRODUCTIVE I AM, THE MORE PRODUCTIVE I AM!!!

  • I just started a new website, http://www.hathawayhamptonhomes.com and have been uploading all kinds of data to it...
  • I have also been blogging my brains out and commenting on posts like mad...
  • Make cold calls (my daily quota is 3)
  • Do open houses (twice a week)
  • Review GIS for properties to pitch for new listings
  • Pitch new lisitngs by phone
  • Prepare marketing plans for new listings
  • Do my business plan for 2011--update weekly
  • Follow up on incomplete issues for in-contracts
  • Update listings
  • Set up appointments for weekend showings
  • Go to closing

I could go on as you know! I have never been so productive. I have never been doing so much at the same time and I am able to do it!

Not only that, I could be doing more! I will be traveling for Thanksgiving and taking much needed time off. My productivity is off the charts and yet I could be even more productive...the old saying "If you want something done give it to a busy person" was never more true!

Are you finding yourself swamped with work? Are you feeling "PRODUCTIVE"?...meaning: you ARE getting results; you are making money; you are happy AND busier than you have ever been? THATS it!! Thats what I am talking about!

That is how I feel right now; you can too if you look at hard work as PRODUCTIVITY! There in lies success and you want that, RIGHT?

Hello Paula, sorry for being late to the party... and congratulations for the compassionate, supportive and optimistic parameters. Sometimes, there are shadows on life's path, and it feels good to have some professional direction.

Thanks for contributing to reducing the gap - you are a inspiration, and we all appreciate your sharing your techniques and the  positive way of doing business. The question I often encompass is, how to be good in business, and at the same time grow spiritually and psychologically, as well as financially?

I note by identifying and implementing those PRODUCTIVITY STEPS, we can get closer to being energised, thus resulting in incresed outputs on all levels - economical, emotional, spiritual, physical and most of all gaining freedom on all fronts...

So let's passionately ride the tiger, hold tight and strong, and fulfill the wild dreams of PRODUCTIVITY...thank you so much for sharing, have a grest Thanksgiving vacation.

P.S. I hope my registration with AR to be successful...as I can't always open all blogs...

Wow, whenever talk of productivity comes into play...I get light headed.

Doing more... begets doing more.

How could that be?

My brokers favorite advice to new agents is to quit planning, and start doing. And you are right, once you are "doing" and being productive, it just multiplies!

Paula, I have been doing the exact same thing. I've been tackling tasks that intimidated me and have actually enjoyed them. I plan on taking off a 4-day weekend myself for Thanksgiving, but I am going to use a small portion of that time to sit back, think about goals for the rest of this year and next year, and think about what our team needs to achieve. I'm actually excited to be able to have time to sit down and plan this because usually weekends are so busy with home stuff that I don't get to do during the week.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Peter: Thanks for reaching all the way around the world to comment!:) In the ideal setting where productivity lies, I find that if you are not connected with the"force" (God, Buddha, whomever you look to) there is no way to win in that game anyway; why, you ask?  Because in the process of turning hard work into productive work, there is that moment in time where one feels grateful, even for a moment that experience exists and there-in lies the real source of productivity: Gratitude! Gratitude can not be felt in failure.

Tom: If you read the reply to Peter just above here, you can see how I view productivity and the difference between that and hard work (which is not always productive)...it comes down to the feeling of gratitude and the fact that gratitude naturally follows success. Giving gratitude (or thanks) is what generates more, thus "Productivity".

Liane: That is great! "Doing" is a good way to  put it...You have very sharp broker there. Good luck!

Amen Paula! I also go by your motto and this has been my best year yet. It's funny you wrote this because another (productive) agent and I were talking about the same thing this weekend. There are a lot of agents in my area who are very pessimistic and do nothing but complain about how slow real estate is. But these same agents are the ones that don't want to prospect or basically work the business and be productive. You have to be productive now in order to be busy (productive) later. I'm already working on how I am going to meet my goals for 2011. Working ON our business is as important as working IN our business and so many agents don't get that. What we do today is going to determine what we do tomorrow. Enjoy your time off. Sounds like you deserve it!

Kristy: I agree--those who complain about how slow it is are those who really don't "work it"; they are the ones waiting for things to turn around, when the way things turn around is by hard productive work at making it happen!!!

I've heard the idea that a body at rest tends to stay at rest and a body in motion tends to stay in motion.  That's coming from a recent TV commercial but I don't remember what for!  Anyway, what I take from it is that staying busy is the key to productivity.  Of course it's possible to be busy but accomplish very little.  One thing for sure is nothing will be accomplished by idling!

Paul: I think the ad is for a fitness company or AARP or something like that..they make sense to me! Productivity does not exist in ALL activity; just the places where you can see measureable results. I can remember when I first started to do real estate, my manager was startled when I tried to do a productivity report--he told me that results in Real estate and not easily measured. In fact "don't try to measure productivity because you will get discouraged!" I took those words of advise and began working on getting measureable results on EVERY project and that is surprisingly effective...thus "productivity"!
