SEO Solicitors Can Be Creative

By
Real Estate Agent with Robin Scott, REALTOR® 467100

and annoying. I don't know what your experience is but I receive a call about once a DAY from a solicitor who can bring me to the first page on a Google search. I've actually been on the first page and not found it to generate business. Perhaps I was on the first page with the wrong key words. I've been willing to try many different advertising and marketing options but the best one is personal networking and that's what I plan to stick with.

Usually, when a solicitor calls they first ask "are you in front of a computer?" I'm sure you've heard that one before. But yesterday I had a very creative call. The caller told me that "Blake" was going to be available to talk to me tomorrow (now today) about how I can improve my SEO and they we scheduling an appointment for me at 2 PM my time so be sure to be in front of a computer when he calls. Plus they will send an email to remind me. Then of course she asked those questions like "was I the decision maker for my business." That's an old script.

Guess what solicitor? I don't have to answer my phone! I'd prefer to just say "no" but I don't have the 30 minutes available to discuss what "no" means.

Vendors have to make a buck too. :)  The calls can be annoying and take time away from an already busy day.  What approach from an SEO solicitor would work with you?

I get these calls too...but you should be getting business.  Are you ranking on Page 1 for "Austing Texas Real Estate" or something like that?

I'm tired of those and the ones about lead generation that they have 20 leads already waiting for me.

The challenge with SEO Gurus, SEO Experts, SEO Moguls, SEO gods and SEO goddesses, is that the market is absolutely saturated with them. (Uh, sort like of Real Estate Agents). Their number one form of soliciting seems to be the Cold Call. They really need a different approach. If someone offers a "Guarantee of First Page Placement"... ask them to expound on that. How long of a tail is on that Keyword Phrase, Mr. SEO Sales Guy?

Hi Rick, sorry if I offended you. Sure we all need to make a buck. My cell phone is on the "do not call list" because I don't want to get these calls but they keep coming. No approach would work for me because I don't want help with my SEO. It's not part of my marketing or budget plan. I think personal networking works best for me.

Cindy, I do get business from my marketing but I guess I use my Web site differently from most. People visit my site because of all the other marketing I do like my activity on Active Rain. They follow links to my site so I don't need to be on page one. Of course, I'm not looking to be a "top producer." I'm just interested in a business that is successful enough to support me.

Andrzej, I've had my fill of lead generation too because most of them are completely invalid with false names, phone numbers and email addresses.

Fred, I often say " if you throw a rock, you'll hit a REALTOR." Yes, the market is flooded with both.

Robin, this drives me crazy. If I am at the office, the phones start ringing and other agents will announce that, "A caller with XXX area code is a sales person, don't pick it up!

Great post, to the point and not at all offensive!

And to answer "RICK"   I always tell them I have all the SEO and Google juice I need from my blog at Active Rain and that I am already on the front page so please remove my number from your list!.

Russell, thanks for the support. I know there are local prospects with out-of-area area codes but I'm considering not answering my phone if it's not a 512. Anyone who wants to talk to me can leave a message. I'm just tired of the time it takes to get these people off the phone. Also, I've found that my clients and even potential clients are more likely to email or text than call.

Rick, after giving it more thought, I have a better answer to your question about what approach an SEO solicitor should use. My suggestion is advertise. If I'm interested in your services, I'll call YOU.
