How to Woo Holiday Buyers

By

As the year winds down, many homeowners fear that now could be a bad time to sell their home. In my professional opinion, holiday shoppers are serious customers. This could be great! The homes that get snatched up this season are the ones that are truly enticing to buyers.  This is a very busy time of year with personal travel and holiday celebrations, so the buyers dropping by open houses right now are the best kind. The serious kind.

Tips for having a house on the market in December:

  • A good rule of thumb is to keep decor simple and subtle. Remember, buyers will be looking at your home and imagining their own holiday celebrations there. So, be sure to leave them room to envision their lives in the home.

  • This goes for the outside too. Holiday lights can be placed outside very tastefully but ditch the huge inflatable characters that make it look like your yard is an amusement park. Keep in mind that curb appeal is what gets buyers in the door.

  • Stash the gifts. If you usually put them under the tree or around the house, save them for the day of your celebration. Presents take up precious floor space and they are a distraction.

  • Cinnamon pine cones or some other mild potpourris can be a pleasant welcome. But don’t go overboard with different fragrances in every room.

Listing your home for sale during the holidays can be extremely profitable. Just be sure to focus on making your home a buyer’s dream this holiday season.

Great tips Adrienne!  It may be a slow time of year... But the buyers that are out shopping at that time are QUALITY, and Motivated!  The best kind of traffic to have!!

Adrienne, I have always found that this is the perfect time to be busy with real estate. You are right the buyers out there are serious and everyone else is taking time off. If you are working then come Jan. 2011 you are off to a great start for the year. There is nothing like starting the year with sales in the bank so to speak!
