Friday's Did You Know? - Holy COW!

Cow Did you know that once upon a time, in the small eastside town of Carnation lived a cow.  Her name was Segis Pietertje Prospect or more affectionately known as Possum Sweetheart.  Possum was no ordinary cow.... no way.  An ordinary cow only produces 4,000 pounds of milk in a year.  In 1920 Possum Sweetheart broke the worlds record for most milk produced in a year.  She pumped 37,361 pounds!  HOLY COW!

Poor old Possum died in 1925.  A monument was erected in her honor at the entrance of Carnation farms.

That poor sore momma!  Having 4 kids I just can't imagine.  She needs more than just a monument, that is for sure!

LOL at Dawn.

So, was she Elsie's mother?  I am old enough to remember when we actually had Carnation milk.  Maybe I shouldn't admit that.

Great comments everyone!  Yes, Carnation farms is where Carnation condensed milk comes from, as well as other Carnation products.  They gave me quite a chuckle.

Wow, I still can't imagine.......37,361 lbs!

Hi Greg- I did not know the story behind the statue.  I used to enjoy taking visiting friends to Carnation Farm.  It's been closed to the public for along time now.  They are putting Camp Korey there soon. This is part of Paul Newman's "Hole in the Wall Camps" designed to give chronically ill children a chance to hang out for a week and be with others with the same illness.  Great camp!!!

Hi Sue,

Thanks for checking in.  I didn't know that Camp Korey is going there.  Thanks for the update.
