Birds in the snow

The weather is getting colder, frost is on the ground for the second consecutive day (no snow yet, this photo is from back in February).  The hummingbird feeders have been down for about a month, but it's getting to be the time when we lend our feathered friends a little help and start setting out the bird feeders and suet blocks!

It's another win-win situation!  We get to see more types of birds than we'd ever expect, and you start to figure out certain birds like certain seeds.  Some will grab a seed, not like it, flick it against our window, grab another, toss it against the window, and keep going until they find one they like!  Pretty funny to watch!

So don't forget our little feathered friends!

Hope you have a great weekend!

I was going to ask what the red bird was.  A cardinal huh.  I would spend all day watching these guys. Hopefully the cats don't get out.

Bliz ~ cute title!  I don't know my bird species well, although my bro-in-law is an avid bird watcher.

Roger, We enjoy watching them too, especially when a new type shows up!  So far today, chickadees, cardinals, nuthatches and wrens have shown up, we know more will be there as they find them again!

Kristen, The kitties love watching, especially when there's snow on the back deck and we scatter seed outside the french doors for the ground feeders.  SOOOO close, but yet so far!

Karen, We're surrounded by nature with the woods around us...all we have to do is look out any window...sometimes the deer are just yards from the house!

Al and Peggy, Scott's Multi-bird mix I think.  Not the cheeeeepest stuff around :)

Jane, We always keep the cats indoors, or when the weather is good in that enclosure we posted about not too long ago.

Dawn, I don't know many of them, but we're learning more.  The colorful ones are probably our favorites.

Hey Bliz! I love watching the birds fly, play and eat :) I was actually looking into purchasing my own feeder to place in the front yard, that is where we used to have them :) Have a blessed day you two!

Laura, We love watching them too.  We've got two feeders hung right outside the living room window, may add another later.  Hope you have a blessed day also!

What a great picture - though I hate cold weather and moved to Florida so I don't have to deal with snow again, your picture brought back great memories in VA.  We had a big yard backing to a park, and with the leaves gone, I watched the birds all the time.  Thanks for sharing.

Ellie, Glad you liked it!  Just since we put out the feeders yesterday, the number of different birds showing up has increased.  Today a woodpecker, some type of reddish finch and the robins have shown up too!  The robins are taking advantage of the spillage from the smaller birds!

I love watching the birds and our feeders are out year round.  Your weather sure is a lot colder than ours.  I'll stop complaining.

Kay, It was actually very nice here today, mid 60s for the high.  Hard to believe it was late November!  The snow picture is a saved shot from last February...not looking forward to that kind of snow :)

BLiz - Like my fellow Cali folks, I don't recall seeing the red bird before - really beautiful!  I'm sure your kitty cats get mesmerized whenever the birdies are hanging out.

Donne, The cardinals here are very striking.  The males are the bright red, the females (bottom right of photo), more of a tan/olive color.

What? You don’t like hummingbirds during the winter? They need to eat, too, especially since few flowers are blooming. My hummingbird feeder is active nonstop from sunrise to sunset.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Russel, The difference between Cali and Ohio...our hummingbirds packed up and headed south at least a month ago!  Love the picture, that's not a variety we get.  Most of ours are the ruby throated hummingbirds!

Wayne, From what I've heard, the bulk of the twit tweeters are either celebrities or pro athletes!  And you should be fairly safe from the cold weather in San Antone!
